Results of the Bay Run Half-Marathon and 10k...Sun 15th May 2016

The annual Bay Run Half-Marathon in Bantry was held on Sunday the 15th of May 2016. As can be seen from the chart below, the numbers in the half were down 24% this year while the 10k numbers showed a bounce of 19%. The overall total was down 3% this year.

There were 183 in the half this year which is a long way from the nearly 1200 which turned up in 2011.

One of the most unusual features again this year is the numbr of women taking part in the 10k. At 69%, it's way higher than the usual 45% or so in most 10k races.

Sorry to learn that numbers are down so drastically. This is a wonderful run and well organised - thank you to all involved. I enjoyed the Half Marathon yesterday - in spite of those hills!
I would suggest that the drop in registrations may have a lot to do with the timing of the event. I was unable to do this run before now because it clashed with the Limerick Half Marathon to which I am very committed. The date was changed this year for the Bay Run, so I was able to do both (though two Half marathons in two weeks was a bit cruel!) However, the change of date pushed the Bay Run closer to the Cork Marathon, which, I suspect, meant a lot of potential runners did not do it. I don't know what the solution is. The running calendar is getting more and more crowded.

I agree with the first comment that the running calendar is getting more crowded, there are an abundance of races on most weeks in Cork County as well as the free Park Runs. I took part in the Bay Run this year, it was very well organised, from registration, number collection, transport to and from start area, bag drop, water stops on route and stewarding. Great course, stunning scenery (not a PB course), beautiful finishers medal, well done to all involved Bay Run, wishing you continued success.
