All the Mallow crowd are going over to Frankfurt, they have nearly a dozen runners going there
How does the scoring work?
Here are the rules...
In team events athletes may only score in the category for which they declare.
Team scores calculated on first 3 across line unless declared
Team positions calculated on finishing times of each athlete
Interesting. A real pity that they can't include more athletes in the scoring, especially as there will be so many from each club doing this race. I have yet to finish in the top 3 for my club (and am some way away from doing so), so unfortunately have little hope of my efforts contributing to the clubs potential success. Most other club runners would be in this bracket too when only the top 3 are considered.
In general, I think it should be in divisions (e.g. MyClub Team A consists of their finishers 1,2,3, MyClub Team B consists of their finishers 4,5,6 and so on).
Alternatively they could simply have a larger number (e.g. 5,8 or 10 for the Dublin Marathon and other big races). With Chip Timing and modern technology, it should be easier than ever to put the scores together (I'm sure just having 1,2,3 from back in the day is when all scores would've been calculated manually?).
It would be great if you could do a Poll on this John -I'd love to know if other club runners feel the same? There's more to a running club than just their elite athletes!
