Hi there, my chip time doesn't seem to have registered for start, who can I ask about this please? Thanks.

Fantastic Race, Really well organised. Congrats all at BallyCotton Running Promotions.

I notice the chip times are not set fully for all runners myself included. Will this get sorted over the coming days?

Thanks again

My time is down at 1.10.13 but considering it took me 30 seconds to cross the line, this is obviously my gun time and not my net time. Therefore my chip time should be 1.09.40. Another club runner I finished with was also incorrectly credited with a gun time as a chip time. Hopefully this will be corrected as it means a difference between a PB or no PB. As always Ballycotton running promotions put on a top class race so hopefully this will be sorted. Many thanks

Always have loved this race but could not do it this year. Instead had to make do with 10M race in the US. 75$ trail out and back. got lost twice. No stewards other than at the 2/8M water station. Came 2nd. No prize. We don't know how good we got it. Ran on my own for much of the race in a very poor field. Had some elite doing his LSR pass me during the race.

In Gearóid Ó Laoi pictures coming into the finish who is on all fours behind runner from Raheeny he looks in trouble!! hope he was ok and made it to finish

can someone explain the difference between net time and gun time? why is there a difference and a big difference by some

John Desmond said...

Gun time V Chip Time.
The Gun time or Gross Time starts when the race actually starts i.e. when the gun goes off and those at the front start running.
The chip time or Net time starts from when you cross the start line.

If anyone finds any error with their time then they should send a mail to the guys in Precision Timing... info@precisiontiming.net

The amount of people wearing headphones was unreal even runners with club vests ( Galtee Runners,Clonakilty Road Runners )if clubs do not get their members to obey the rules of a race what hope is there for non club members.

To answer the question about the athlete seen on the ground in one of Gearoid O'Laoi's photos, he is fine. He got up again and finished the race, and on crossing the line had no problems walking to the end of the finishing funnel where he collected his mug and got a bottle of water.

Got in touch with Ronan Wogan in precision timing so all sorted now. Many thanks.

Headphones aren't the problem: though they're symptomatic of it. Some runners, and they seem more prevelant at BC10 more than any other race, just seem completely oblivious to the repercussions of their actions.

About a mile in, a woman on my right decided to cut straight across the road to high 5 people on the left hand side of the road. She was inches from taking me and everyone behind me with her. No looking, no forethought, just blind idiocy. And people seem to have no sense of where they should be at the race start: when you're passing joggers after 2 miles of the race, you know that there was people up near the front who have no right being anywhere near it. Someone's going to get annihilated some year for not paying attention or due respect for those around them.

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone picked up wrong bag in the field after race? When I got back my bag was gone, 492. Thanks

I lost a neck less could of been by baggage area just a shot in the dark someone might of found it. Had it 20yrs great race

Headphones are not the problem they once were. Just because someone is wearing headphones doesn't mean they are listening to music.

Personally, I use a running app on my phone and use one earpiece to listen to feedback after every mile. This is no more distracting then the runner who checks his garmin at the mile markers.

Granted you will always get the odd person who will be oblivious to their surroundings, but let's not paint everyone with an earpiece in with the same brush!

Another brilliant day out in Ballycotton - my 6th one. Love this event, well-organised and great atmosphere. Well done to all involved, see you again in 2015 ;-)

Whether you are listening to music or mot wearing headphones reduces your hearing and ability to react to events happening around you.Should be banned without exception

Rules are rules. No headphones means no headphones! Simple. Loved every mo of this race again this year. Before, during and after. Keep coming back. Thanks again to John and all.

from what I heard he just got caught for breath and just needed to clear his chest. He seemed to be running as freely after the short stop as he did before hand I think he even out sprinted someone to get 10th place back some going

the interview files for the top athletes are no longer available presumably due to being downloaded too many times. If possible to recover these be great to get a listen to them...
Thanks!

John Desmond said...

The three interview MP3 files are still there. It should be a case of downloading the file and opening it with whatever media player you have on your PC.

All I'm saying is the no headphones rules came in when people were listening to Walkmans blasting out music, times have moved on and one earpiece does not mean music and lack of attention.

This outdated rule needs revisiting.

Why the "No shows" after all the commotion to get in. 625 entries never showed up....
Compare entry by club to finishers by club and it makes for interesting reading.
All clubs are guilty, some more than others.
It is a great day, always has, but some people just enter with no thought of whether they will do it or not.

Hi

Well done on another great race, well organised, even the weather held up
Don't understand all the fush about ear phones to be honest, once people don't have them at full volume , there shouldn't be a problem.
the only issue is the start, so many people in the wrong runnging time zone. if you are a slow runner, let the fast runners through. you don't need to be hand in hand with your friends etc. have consideration for those runners who are faster.

Gerard said...

Regarding no shows, I did contemplate not running during week due to nagging injury but happily did go ahead. I feel there should be some facility to allow non runners notify their non participation and have entry transferred to another runner with perhaps some moderate charge to cover additional administration and to deter casual exchange of numbers,. We all know some ' informal' handing over of entry numbers goes on so perhaps it is time recognise reality. Organisations of such large races do hype the need to entry before closing date so perhaps they should recognise the dilemma for the many runners who are injury prone and genuinely cannot run after paying their entry money.

Re: Comment #24
There are valid, tried & tested SAFETY rules why headphones are a hazard in mass participation events.

On Sunday last I twice came across an individual wearing one.

First time, he overtook me on the right, then lurched left, right across my path. I called out to him but there was no reaction. Then I realised that he was wearing headphones and (probably) didn't hear, so I shouted at him .....No reaction ...probably still couldn't hear!

He went ahead, getting about 30m ahead. About 3/4 mile later he again lurched left, clutching at his waist. As far as I could make out, he was changing the track on his MP3 player.

The rule is far from outdated. It is a necessary safety measure.

Anonymous said...

You are making my point john, that guy was an idiot listening to music and running and not paying attention to those around him.

However, not everyone with an earpiece is listening to music. Are you telling me that the guards on the street with earpieces in one ear aren't paying attention to those around them cause they are distracted?.

No one would suggest that ear plugs with acdc blasting is safe, and that could not be accepted.

I'm sure if you look at your "tried and tested" safety rules they predate modern running apps which are less distracting than chatting to a fellow runner.

We always hear from the anti-headphone wearers but never the music-listening-headphone wearers. Maybe its a lack of understanding? Can some music-listening-racer come on here and leave a comment regarding racing and listening to music. How come you dont loose concentration and slow down?

Anonymous said...

Cant understand what all the fuss is about regarding music, I cant run without my ipod one ear piece in.... relax peeps

Did the race for the first time on Sunday last and really enjoyed it, atmosphere, organisation and marshaling were excellent!!
Well done to all involved!
Quick question, didn't manage to buy a t-shirt on the day, does anyone know if they are available anywhere?

John Desmond said...

I asked the organisers about buying some of the Ballycotton clothing outside of race day. They said that you should send an email to ballycottonrunning@eircom.net and they can sort out the delivery.
