The inaugural Blackwater 10 mile road race was held in Clondulane near Fermoy on Sunday the 17th of May 2015. For a first outing, it attracted a field of 327 runners which is an excellent turnout.
The course itself was really split up into two halves. The first 5 miles had a gradual uphill while there was plenty of downhill running in the second half. It would be interesting to hear what people thought of the course?

Great race, good honest course, some hills but plenty of sections to recover too, very well organised, hope it comes back next .
ReplyDeleteVery enjoyable race and very well organised. Arrived 20 minutes before the start and was back on the road 5 minutes after finishing. Nice course, the downhill section in the middle was a lifesaver. Would definitely enter again.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I thought this race was the toughest I've ever done and I've been running over 10 years. I never found i had time to recover. Having said that, hats off to the organisers and the local community. They got it spot on. The grub afterwards was fantastic.Lovely area for a race, nice quiet roads and beautiful countryside. In spite of hills I'd do it again next year
ReplyDeleteAs a Cobh runner I must say I enjoyed the climbs ...and the descents. It was extremely well organised and great local support along the way. The catering was excellent and no bother getting back on the road afterwards. Look forward to it next year. We'll done all
ReplyDeleteCould maybe do with a few more toilets next time? Four portaloos for 340 ppl was bound to lead to queues! Lavatory's aside it was a great race on nice quiet roads in scenic surroundings. Tougher than I thought it would be too.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the race, like the Cobh 10 with the early climbs, and plenty of interest with no real straight runs. Well organised with loads of volunteers. The late finishers had to queue to get into the small hall, and luckily it was dry, so this is something to look into for next year.
ReplyDeleteTough course. Nicely timed two weeks before the Cork city half marathon. Wasn't expecting so much ascent in the last few miles but still a great course. Well done to the organisers - parking was hassle free, appropriate water stations, fantastic support along the route, plenty of food and drinks afterwards. T-shirt was a bonus. Thanks to all the volunteers.
ReplyDeleteGreat support and organization! Water bottles were fab and loads of food and goodies at the end for all finishers! The car parking and community spirit was fantastic.Tough but fair course. Good test.Roll on next year :-)
ReplyDeleteClondulane was a lovely location and it was well organised.
ReplyDeletepersonally I did not like the course.that was a very tough opening 5 miles. The down for about 1 mile and a half after was very severe but refreshing to gain back time lost on the first 5 mile.
The last 3 miles were fairly tough too some dirty hills thrown into the mix. I agree with the other poster that this was the toughest race i have done and i have been been entering races for the last 5 years.
But hopefully they will get support again next year but for me I wont be there.
Agree with comments about course difficulty. The organisation/logisitical side of the race was utterly faultless and runners were exceptionally well looked after. Even the arrows on the road were a fantastic touch and showed the level of thought and preparation that went onto this event. Re; the course i could be wrong but i think that along with the hills it was actually a net climb as the start was down the hill outside the village and the finish was in the village at the top of the hill which would have made it a slower run i imagine. A friend of mine also said that she felt that it would probably be a quicker course run in reverse such was the nature of the gradients, with a very fast last few miles. Addressing these two areas would make it a more attractive race for runners looking for a respectable time, well done all round.
ReplyDeleteWell done Clondulane! Very well organised, marshalled properly, and lovely spread afterwards! Agree with previous comments about the course being tough, but there's nothing wrong with a challenge! Thanks a million, and the cuppa at the end was the nicest tea I've ever drunk!
ReplyDeleteFor a first time race this was faultless, the organizers should take a bow. As an experienced runner this is a very scenic and lovely course but as tough as 10 milers go. Really enjoyed it and a real village feel to it. No shortcuts either, good feed, top that I would wear training, good commentary on the finish, chip timing etc.
ReplyDeleteIts a perfect warm up for the Cork marathon and I will definitely be back.
The official results will be posted on the Blackwater 10 website... http://blackwater10mile.com/
ReplyDeleteFantastic organisation, support and atmosphere. These are busy roads and to have them virtually closed is a major undertaking that deserves recogition. Well done and thanks to everyone involved.
ReplyDeleteGreat course, great scenery, great atmosphere in the village and on the root, very easy to get from the car to the finish. Well done. I will be back next year.
ReplyDeleteI concur with all the comments above. Very well organised. Roads virtually closed, well manned water stations. Great community spirit, and encouragement from all the marshals. Scenery is lovely too. Course is certainly challenging. 4.5 miles of gradual uphill, about a 1.5 miles of downhill/flat, and the rest "lumpy". A great test of fitness for the Cork half. If you can manage this, then the half marathon will be no problem.

It was important to get the runners off the N72(main road)as quick as possible running the course in reverse would not have allowed this.
ReplyDeleteThe Community of Clondulane should take a bow! What a fantastic event. Ive been to a lot of races, and sundays run was up there with the best of them.
ReplyDeleteParking, Stewarding, Water Stations, local supporters en route, Road Markings, post run refreshments.... all top notch.
The course itself was far from easy. Very challenging - but I rose to that challenge and I also spoke to a lot who ran this course faster than B'Cotton & Mallow.
I hope this becomes a regular race - I for one cant wait to register for 2016.
Well done Clondulane...well done!
Missed it this year due to injury but looking forward to running it next year. Well done Clondulane, the organisers and volunteers.
