There was an article in the New York Times yesterday that asked the question...What's your fitness age? It was in response to a recent study that suggested that a persons 'fitness age' may predict risk of early death better than some traditional risk factors like being overweight, having high cholesterol levels or blood pressure, and smoking.
The study which was published in June in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise was based on questionnaires given to 55,000 Norwegian adults in the 1980s which were then correlated more recently with death records.
According to the article. your 'fitness age' can be determined primarily by your VO2max...a measure of your body's ability to take in and utilize oxygen.
You can find the article on the New York Times website.
