Interestingly enough, the total number of entries was down slightly this year. Last year, they got 3340 while this year, it's 3,192....about 150 less. Then again, that's only roughly a 3% drop so it's not a whole lot anyway.

Some points from the organisers...
We would ask people to please take note of the following points:
(1) The race packages (number, programme, etc) will be posted out approx two weeks before the race day of March 6th – on the week commencing February 20th
(2) We do not have a waiting list. We allow for a certain percentage of ‘no shows’ and therefore accept more than we can accommodate.
(3) We do not refund people who are unable to run.
(4) You cannot give your number to another runner. Last year, despite our warnings, a few runners again ignored this rule. As a result, we took the unprecedented step of publishing pictures of people not wearing the correct number on our website. We are prepared to do the same this year and also will not accept entries from the offending parties for next year’s race. So don’t say you haven’t been warned!
a liitle disapponted , don't seen my name even though sent entry form and cheque way back in december and had completed 4 summer series races in the summer. Presume there's no way back?

what's the story with no names for the first 50 numbers. i know they are elite runners but any idea when we know who they might be ?
ReplyDeleteYes I'm a little disappointed too. My friend posted his and mine together by dropping both of them to the post office on that icy afternoon when the forms came online. His name made the list and mine didn't. Must have been something wrong with my application I guess. Maybe I'll give someone else a chance this year :-)
ReplyDeleteFor the first comment, i ran all four races in the series also and didnt post my entry until 2 days before the deadline and still got in , i would be making a little noise if i was you..... , if not dont be let if bother you too much , mallow is 3 weeks after and thats a nice route with a good start , not cramped...., and lovely scenery...
ReplyDeleteCathal,there is no "story" with the first 50 numbers. These numbers are simply retained for elite athletes, as is standard procedure at Ballycotton '10' for many years. We will obviously not know the identity of all elite athletes until closer to race day.

ReplyDeleteIf you are not on the full list then alas you're not in. An alternative might be the Mallow '10' on the 27th of March.
I also posted mine and my friends together...he's in...I'm not! Not even going to bother complaining...but very disappointed with them.

ReplyDeleteThere may be a number of reasons why people didn't get in....
1) Didn't sign the entry form
2) Didn't qualify for the particular entry date
3) An Post...did they deliver your letter on time?
Looking back at a poll that was carried out here when the SAE forms were sent out in 2009, it would seem that there is a big difference in term of when the actual letters arrive.
