Saturday 24th of October 2026 - There was a huge drop in numbers for the 5k parkruns in Co Cork with heavy rain crossing over Ireland this morning. It might be tempting to think the Dublin marathon had something to do with the drop but the same Saturday last year saw over 1200 parkrunners taking part.
Most people just saw the weather forecast and gave it a miss. The numbers for both Tramore Valley and Ballincollig were surprisingly low with just 89 and 95 respectively. Mallow, Macroom, Glengarriff and Clonakilty were cancelled.
The one plus is that the rain supressed the attendance at the second edition in Carrigaline which helps in a little way to keep the initial surge in numbers down.
There was a total of 366 finishers across the seven events.
Milestones...
Carrigaline... Well done to Graham Meikle who earned his 400th parkrun volunteer credit this weekend!
Ballincollig... Ann O'Sullivan completed her 250th parkrun.
Clonakilty... The 5k parkrun was cancelled on Saturday morning after the heavy rain turned part of the course into a stream.
