The 2026 Cork City Marathon was held on Sunday the 31st of May on what turned out to be a cool and overcast day, perfect for running.
The numbers in the full and half-marathon were up this year while the 10k seems to be down a bit, we'll look at the numbers in a future post once things have died down.

First time doing the 10k. Might have been just me but was the course a bit long? Also disappointing how quiet it was along the finish line.
ReplyDeleteThe half was starting around 10ish maybe little later, I would imagine a lot of people were there due to the tribute to Ellen Cassidy. I was on the last corner before the finish from 9:15ish untill 12:20 and it got much busier as the morning went on.
DeleteMy first full marathon and I’m delighted. The first half was fantastic going through the tunnel and then the beautiful Cork along the water. Loved the start and finish destination. Slept with my medal last night 💛💛
DeleteCourse definitely long.. Everybody's watch can't be wrong. My friend group had distances from 10.18km to 10.25.....
ReplyDeleteVery good buzz at the end of the half. Great crowd support on Washington St. and on Grand Parade
ReplyDeleteThat was my 4th Cork Marathon and the changes to the course were very positive especially the finish in the western road, crowd was incredible, the crowd being so close to the runners made is even better
ReplyDelete2 separate runners today in the 10k. 20 mins difference in finish times with different start points at the start line, one measured 6.35 miles, 2nd 6.38 miles. Over 200 meters extra seems excessive. Would suggest the 10k was long considering comments from others elsewhere saying same.
ReplyDeleteVery emotional tribute to Ellen and the support from the public was incredible all along the course ! Very good organisation of the route, emergency lane, water station, bag drop etc. Fair play to all the kids helping picking up the bottles. Only two things maybe is more back to back park n ride buses at busy time and more space for runners in the city hall to wait and get organised. It was fine because it was a dry day but might have been a problem on a wet day. Overall what a great day !
ReplyDeleteThe residents in Mount Pleasant avenue, part of the new course in Ballyphehane were a credit to their community. Yellow bunting, balloons and banners everywhere. All residents out with various jellies for runners. Well done Mount Pleasant avenue. Was such a lift turn the corner on to that road.
ReplyDeleteYes it was brilliant..they should be given a community donation from the council in recognition of their super work..the HM was measured by too much....the finish in grand parade a defo plus..great event..
DeleteNot sure about 10k being long. There were a lot of runners and trying to keep to the racing line was almost impossible. Lots of weaving around runners and quite a few pinch points and sharp turns. Not a complaint, just how it was. Unless you were at the front I think you’d be hard pressed to get 10k exactly. I trust the course measurers, they know what they’re doing. (I’m not one btw). Thought the support at the finish was grand tbh. Really well organised event.
ReplyDeleteStarted as close as you can get to the start and still felt there was an extra fee hundred metres on the 10k. This is the second big race in Cork in recent weeks that was measured too long.
ReplyDeleteWas great event from start to finish but I think ten k race should be in ways too many people past too many turns things in way walkimg be back course bit long too
ReplyDeleteI really do hope that everyone who's talking about the 10km ran the exact RACING LINE as measured out by a AIMS accredited measure, cycled tw
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn’t be the first time that a measured course was long. A wrong cone has ruined many race around the world. Mistakes happen, so would be interesting to see was there an issue somewhere along the way.
DeleteHopefully they do something with the 10k course in the future. It’s awful and too tight in so many areas.
The half marathon measured at 21.39 k for me. I think the extra distance though was due to me being unable to stay on the racing line as we passed marathon runners from the merge point onwards. I felt sorry for the marathon runners. It couldn't have helped them having half marathon runners passing them.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fabulous positive day in Cork City. Well done to Eamonn Hayes & team for putting on such a well organised event.
ReplyDeleteAs a spectator, the barrier free area around Lancaster Quay was great.....the awfully placed carpark at the finish line was not
ReplyDeleteSuch a missed opportunity not to allow massive spectator access at the finish line for the sake of a few vehicles, most of which could easily have parked in the empty carpark not 50 mm meters away!
Super day all round. Cork marathon is just going from strength to strength each year. All changes this year were really positive. New finish line was brilliant. Eamon Hayes and his team are fantastic.
