The annual Donoughmore 7 mile road race is coming up this year on Thursday 20th June 2024.

As road races go, this one is really unique as it's the only 7 mile road race on the calendar. At first, it might seem like a bit of an odd distance but don't let that put you off. It's really is a well organised race on country roads to the north-west of Cork City....even if it is a little bit hilly ;o)
This race got a boost in numbers last year for its 40th anniversary and should popular again this year. There aren't too many races in Cork with such a long history.
Directions...Donoughmore is located about 15 miles north-west of Cork City. If you are coming out the Ballincollig bypass or the Carrigrohane straight, look for directions for the R579 road to Nad / Banteer / Kanturk. Stay on this road for about 10 miles / 16kms and keep a lookout for the turn off right to Donoughmore. Then follow the signs for Stuake. The village is about 2 miles / 3kms off the R579 road. A great honest race to test oneself over an unusual distance. Always very well organised.
ReplyDeleteI have been doing this races mostly every year since 2006. Will they take entries on the evening of the race ?,
