Lead runners sent wrong way in Wicklow trail race

It seems that two of the leading runners in a trail race in Co Wicklow were sent the wrong way by a race marshal last weekend. In fairness to the organisers, they put up their hand, admitted the mistake and apologised. See statement below...

"Many thanks for all the kind comments and positive energy over the last few days but we would like to hold our hands up and apologize to our two leading runners in the 19k and 30k race, Derek Crammond and Tudor Moldovan. 🙏

Both runners were misdirected by a marshal, an error that happened due to human error and an unusual set of circumstances at that particular junction.

We know how hard everyone trains and gives to race day so as race organisers it is very disappointing for such a mistake to happen and more disappointing of course for the runners in question.

All of our race marshals have done a fantastic job over the last few years and our race marking team do tremendous work over the few days of race weekend and the weeks leading up to the race to ensure a safe and fun route for everyone.

Unfortunately, mistakes can happen and we will review everything to try and make sure such a mistake does not happen again.

Apologies once more Derek and Tudor and we hope to see you as our guests next year."

There have been cases in the past where race organisers try to ignore the fact a mistake was made or push the blame onto the runners as if they're supposed to know the course in advance.
