Great day for it, loads of support and a great atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteJust a question on pacers- do they pace to the gun time or the time they cross the start line?
Tried slotting in behind the 1:35 pacers and around a km in they were up on the kerb and down the road.
Well out of sight by halfway, but I ended up finishing just over the 1:35 mark on my watch.
It would be useful to know just so I can start further up the road next time!
They probably were a little off at the start. And maybe tried to bank a few seconds. I went out with the 60 min pacers and they paced bang on 5.57 the whole way. We had 30 seconds to spare at the end. It was the best pacing l have seen in a long time
DeleteGreat race as always. Weather perfect, brilliant stewarding. Parking first class. For a down the field runner like mise and finshing just over 1hr 50mims and thrilled to do so and unfortunately no small or medium tee shirts. I'm size 10 so the large one i got is useless and one of my sons will wear. . Its a pity that we're penalised for been slow runners. We're just as important as the fast ones. Otherwise well done. Annis Kehoe
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with previous comment, I was 1hr43 and I was only left with a large T-shirt, very disappointed as I won’t be able ware it either, on the application you should have to input t-shirt size required. As they are male sizing t-shirts being a female, it’s huge on me. Not good enough from organisers. Otherwise great race
ReplyDeleteWe didn't get any tee shirt when we finished loads of us left without one
DeleteRace organisers played a blinder today. Impossible to get all t-shirt sizes correct and still donate 9k to charity. It's not penalising slow runners it's just logistics. Pretty sure people nominate their size on signup but no doubt on the day people take other options. Appreciate its frustrating though but Impossible to manage perfectly
ReplyDeleteThe 2 euro extra for non club runners didn't seem to effect the numbers at all. I saw some of those who were complaining on this page running despite saying they wouldn't pay it.
ReplyDeleteThe €2 Athletics Ireland fee is very unlikely to impact numbers at big events like 10-milers, half-marathons or marathons.
ReplyDeleteIt's more likely to be felt at small club races i.e. 5k, 4m, 5m, 10k where the entry fee will jump €2-3 for non-club runners.
Agreed - people would pay €10 extra for an event like Dungarvan but paying almost €20 for a bog standard 5k will be felt.
DeleteRun because you can!!!
ReplyDeleteBecause you love it!
Because you have the ability to run. !
The health to run!
Don't mind petty things like t shirts and times.
None of that stuff is important at the end of the day.
No one is going to remember anyone in life by how fast they were. But they will remember you for what kind of person you are . Run for the right reasons and stay positive. We live in a world sometimes where we pick out the negative all the time. Life us too short to be unhappy. Well done to EVERYONE yesterday. If the t shirt doesn't fit...bring it to the charity shop where someone will benefit from it.
Very disappointed that I could not get a small size in t-shirt...a bit un fair because we worked just as hard as all before us to cross the finishing line...
ReplyDeleteToo bad the tea/coffee afterwards in the Sport Centre is gone, that was a great place to meet people. But that small thing aside, it's a great event.
ReplyDeleteA big thank you to the pacers who did a great job. I ran with a 80 min pacer and he was so encouraging and helpful. A really well organised race, hope to be back again.
ReplyDeleteI last ran this in 2017 and it's still a excellent event. No issues with any aspects of the route , stewarding or support. That hill at the end is great!!!! I did have to wait a fair bit of the t shirt sO I simply didn't bother collecting it. I have loads as it is.
ReplyDeleteWith the race now scheduled on the new bank holiday weekend this race might even get bigger.
The effort that goes into this is unbelievable and all purely on a voluntary basis, as most runs are, by people who are working and have family lives. A race t-shirt being slightly too large is a fairly trivial thing to be honest and a petty complaint. Well done West Waterford great race and great value as always. Everything was excellent can't compliment you enough .
ReplyDeleteFabalous course & got a p.b to
ReplyDeleteHi, it was a well run event. With the t shirts, look it is what it is, I got a large at 1.45, yes it is a little bit too big. But tbh , personally I don't care. The most important thing is I finished at 1.45. Perfect t shirt for a training run. I look forward to J T 2024. Only feedback is , how about posting out the t shirt in advance ? The people that prob actually need the correct sized t shirt the most are prob in the 1 hrs 40 plus mins categories as they as this is prob their big race this year . Just my opinion.. well done to you all
ReplyDeleteBrilliant event, one of my favourite of the year. Excellently organized too.
ReplyDeleteI'm not overly fussed about 'Pacers' as I feel you can only use them as a guide, but the 70 min pacers came in at 69.27 gun time, which means ~about 69.15 chip time. That's quite poor. A pacer should cross seconds before their target to give everyone else a fair effort.
Sean Rowe .... sportsphoto ireland has about 1300 photos of Sundays race online on Facebook....
ReplyDeleteThis is what people should be appreciating. The ability to be able to get out and do it. The t-shirt is only a bonus. And, before anyone launches I too didn't get what I ordered. I don't care, for me it was a personal challenge post cancer. Well done to West Waterford AC and all the support crew along the way, my home club.

For those giving out about t-shirts & suggesting getting posted out.. Think about the logistics, I'm pretty sure that to get approx 3,000 Nike t-shirts they will probably have to be ordered in the next month or so..Not the week before the race.. if it was a cheap throw away t-shirt that may be possible.
ReplyDeleteOn the posting out of t-shirts.. They are a finishers t-shirt so posting out is not really an option beforehand is it??
I don't think anyone is giving out tbh.. think people are giving feedback at the same time as saying they thoroughly enjoyed the race . Highly doubt that they are ordered in the week before the race either as one can see the effort, thought and design gone into them. If there was an option to receive t shirt by post I for sure would pay the postage . Well done to the volunteers you are amazing people.
ReplyDeleteMy first 10miler ever. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and support around the course. Very well run race, very well done to all involved, roll on 2024 💪💪💪
ReplyDeleteThanks to the organisers and volunteers again.
ReplyDeleteCritisism - there needs to either waves to start or the insist on people staying where they should at the start and marshalling this. The amount of people with no cop on, up the top at the start with no business there is unreal and extremely frustrating. You have to elbow your way through them and then give out! It was a traffic jam for about a km and It means the pacers are making up time and not keeping a steady pace
