Cork County Council has just granted planning permission to Carrigaline Rugby Football Club (RFC) and Carrigaline Athletics Club (AC) for a new multipurpose sports facility at Kilnagleary, Carrigaline.
The 6.3 hectare site will have a 400-metre athletics track as well as three standard size grass playing pitches.
Carrigaline currently has a population of about 16,000 and is one of the fastest growing towns in Cork. By the time this facility is completed, it may well be closer to 20,000.
This is one of several new athletic tracks planned for the county including one at Mallow (pop. 13,000) and Bandon (pop. 7,000).
