55-year old woman sets new Lands End to John O'Groats record

55-year-old ultra-runner Sharon Gayter has just the fastest person to travel by foot between John O'Groats in the far north-east of Scotland to Land's End in SW Cornwall.

The 822 mile route covering the length of Britain took 12 days, 11 hours, 6 minutes, and 7 seconds, more than 4 hours faster than the previous record set by Marina Anderson in July of 2008.

As well as covering the required distance, there was also the additional challenge of sleep deprivation as she only managed to sleep an average of three hours each night.

The men's record which was set in 2001 is nine days, two hours, and 26 minutes.
