It was a bit dull and grey for the first outing of this new 10 mile race in Kinsale.

Someone sent me a text to say that they got 10.2 miles on their GPS watch with this one. It would normally be around 10.05. Maybe it was just something up with the watch? Anyone else see something similar?

I had the same issue,my watch beeped for 10 miles just as we entered the school but we still had a lap of the astro pitch left to run. I finished up with just under 10.2 miles, this was was very disappointing as I had enjoyed the race, it was a tough but fair course. I spoke to some other runners and they all had the same issue, from mile 1 to mile 9 the mile markers were spot on. Having said that I would definitely do the race again, the organisers did a great job apart from the location of the finish line.
ReplyDeleteMy watch had race at 10.14 miles.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking to a number of runners they had it between 10.11 and 10.15.
Demanding course with plenty of ups and downs. very strong headwind on final two miles.
This race should flourish in the next few years.
Well done riverstick AC.
The final mile seemed to be long by 160/170m. Generally don't pay need to gps watch distance but when all the error occurs in the last mile and doesn't match the expected pace....theb unfortunately it's a course issue. Well organised race though, will do it again, a good addition to the calendar. Tough course though not helped by the wind strength and direction.
ReplyDeleteWatch registered 16.43k, enjoyed it anyway had also a pb as this was my first 10mile run
ReplyDeleteYa course was definitely a few hundred metres too long but I wouldn't hold it against the race organisers too much. Well run race and lovely course. Managed to beat my previous pb by over 6 minutes.
ReplyDeleteYes definitely 200meters long but good challenging course
ReplyDeleteI thought the organisation of this new race was second to none, great atmosphere, great cause. A new really good ten miler on the Munster circuit. Well done everyone, and thanks for a great day!
ReplyDeleteMy first 10 mile really enjoyed it so well organised plenty of road marshals... beautiful scenery found it more hilly than flat...it's a pity 200m was added on as it also registered on my watch but at least I can take more off my time...would do it again...Tanya
ReplyDelete10.15 miles and I was taking the racing line as much as I could (thought I was overdoing it at times as I seemed to be the only one cutting corners!) Saying that, I have no complaints. It was a super race, well organized and a great finish. Looking forward to next year. Last mile was beautiful, good man Jamie.
ReplyDeleteVery well organised event.Lovely course. I didn't have a Garmin watch so can't comment on the distance.Well done to all involved in this event. One for the future
ReplyDeleteAs a local, great race but was never going to be easy as kinsale could never do a 10 miles flat but as said well organised and some great times as the wind was very strong for the last couple of miles definitely a race that can improve from it's first time and only get better
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the run, but disappointed with the extra minute on clock as watch registered 10miles as we entered school! The lap around Astro turf was tough finish when you knew you had already clocked your 10 miles! I loved the course though and organisation was fantastic!! Will be back!!!
ReplyDeleteHow can people say its well organised when the course is long. The majority of people do races for a pb not to be mislead
ReplyDeleteClearly it's a teething problem and not deliberately misleading, it's the first year this race has been run.
Deletemaybe water bottles next year?
ReplyDeleteI know it's hard to drink out of the cups while you run but Kinsale is slowly trying to become plastic free so that's why they are not using hundreds of tiny plastic bottles.
DeleteWell done to all concerned and I echo all comments so far. Pity about extra distance though at the end, that said, it is a run that will grow in numbers. Great stewarding, well organised, lovely atmosphere, just wondering can it start earlier say 11.00 am. I am conscious that on Sunday mornings it might clash with Mass times and Gardai have everyone's safety and other traffic to manage. Could parking be looked at for future concern. These are not criticisms, mere observations. Well done to all, will I be back and encourage others to do it, definitely yes to both.
ReplyDeleteGreat race. The extra distance added to the time is the only disappointment as it means no sub 60.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it could be measured accurately and a pace calculation made so that a 10 mile split could be given?
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the race very much . It was well organized well supported. Maybe a tad bit long but it can only improve for next year. For the 1st year it went very smoothly. What previous posters said can be improved on. minor teething problems but not a disaster. Maybe a few portaloos as there were high numbers running. Well marshalled course . Well supported. Hopefully be back next year. Well done to everyone involved in the organization.
ReplyDeleteAgree that it seemed a little long 10.14 on my watch. However, very enjoyable race and it is fast contrary to your earlier post. I was a good 20 seconds faster than Dungarvan for just under 70 minutes and this would have been faster only for strong head wind for last 1-2 miles
