Press release : Join Sonia O’Sullivan at Cabinteely parkrun on Saturday 28th April 2018

Former World Champion and Olympic Silver Medallist, Sonia O’Sullivan will complete her 100th parkrun at the Cabinteely parkrun, Dublin 18 on Saturday, 28th April.

Vhi, Presenting Partner of parkrun, will host a special event to celebrate the achievement and is calling on walkers, joggers and runners of all ages and abilities to join Sonia and kickstart their weekend on a healthy note at the free 5km event.

Vhi will be helping newcomers and regular parkrun participants refuel after their morning exercise and providing refreshments in the Vhi Relaxation Area at the finish line. Free massage balls will be given out on a first come first served basis and a qualified physiotherapist will also be on hand to guide participants through a post-event stretching routine.

Sonia O’Sullivan is passionate about the parkrun movement; “I’ve been a parkrunner for almost 13 years now and the events are a huge part of my weekly routine. Reaching the 100-parkrun milestone will make me immensely proud as I think back on the various runs, jogs, and walks which have got me to this point. The beauty of parkrun in partnership with Vhi is that they’re so welcoming and accessible and no matter how fit or unfit you may be on that particular Saturday morning, you’re cheered home and get a real physical and mental boost once you’ve completed the distance and caught up with friends. For those who have never done a parkrun before I’d encourage you to give it a go and for lapsed or regular parkrunners, I’m looking forward to seeing you at the Cabinteely parkrun on April 28th for the special Vhi Roadshow.”

Declan Moran, Director of Marketing & Business Development, Vhi said; “parkrun has been growing at an incredible rate and as it closes in on one million runs in Ireland, Vhi is delighted to be supporting its growth and development. The success of parkrun lies in the simplicity and accessibility of these local community-based events which are now taking place in 88 parks nationwide. Sonia O’Sullivan, like Vhi, is a passionate advocate for health and fitness and we are delighted to celebrate Sonia’s fantastic achievement as she looks to complete 100th parkrun. The Vhi Roadshow at Cabinteely parkrun promises to be a great event and is one we are very much looking forward to.”

parkrun in partnership with Vhi supports local communities in organising free, weekly, timed 5k runs every Saturday morning at 88 venues all over Ireland, with around 10,000 people of every age and ability taking part each week. The events are organised by more than 1,000 volunteers every weekend from Bere Island to Ballina to Ballinteer. Over 190,000 registered participants have run more than 5 million kilometres at parkrun Ireland events since it started here in November 2012. Originally launched in the UK in 2004, parkrun is the single biggest participation running event globally with nearly three million registered participants and an average of 165,000 weekly participants.
