Results, Photos & Highlights of the 2017 National Senior Track & Field Championships

The National Track & Field Championships were held in Santry, Co.Dublin over the weekend with a pretty packed schedule. Most events had reasonable fields which is an improvement on a few years ago when some of the women's middle distance and longer races weren't that competitive.

While a number of Cork athletes managed to get into the medals, the number of Cork athletes present seemed pretty small. According to the latest Athletics Ireland stats, Cork makes up 15.5% of the total adult membership of association. Looking at the results, the number of Cork athletes seems to have been a lot lower than this.

For example, if you look at the finals of the men's and women's 5000m, 1500m, 800m and 400m race, there are 83 athletes. Of this 83, only 6 were from Cork which is 7.2%.
