Results & photos of the Ballintotis 4 mile road race...Thurs 20th Apr 2017

Just under 900 runners turned out for this years Ballintotis 4 mile road race in East Cork. This is often seen as the official start of the evening road races for the Summer. It was also pretty obvious why this was voted the best 4 mile road race in Cork in 2016. From the car parks to the catering, it was obvious to see the level of effort that was put in.

Both the men's and women's races were keenly contested with the winners only being decided in the closing stages.

Start of the race...

Post race interview with the winner James McCarthy....

In the women's race, there was only 7 seconds in the end between Claire McCarthy of Leevale AC and Aoife Cooke of Youghal AC. With just under a mile to go, Claire was just a few metres ahead of Aoife but put in a fast last mile to take the win.

Aoife's time of 21:38 was a new personal time for the Youghal AC athlete as she beat her previous time by a whopping 39 seconds.

Claire's time was very close to the course record.

In the men's race, both James McCarthy and Sean McGrath had the same finish time.

With just under a mile to go, both East Cork AC athletes were neck and neck. In the closing straight, James managed to out sprint Sean for the finish line. As you can see, they left everything out on the course.

  5. Brilliant event again this year, all those involved in the organization of the race should give themselves a pat on the back. Outstanding.

  6. Great event, lovely evening, what more could you ask! The start area divided by finish times looked to work really well, wouldn't that be a great idea for Ballycotton :)

    1. There are time zones at the start area in Ballycotton 10 and in the Ballycotton Summer Series races. As the numbers taking part in Ballintotis increased the time zones were introduced. It's hard for Ballycotton 10 to ensure people are in their correct start areas as numbers are huge and road is so narrow.

  8. Great event, so very well organised.Well done to John, Seanie and all your crew as an event like this does not just happen without all those working and doing their bit in the background. Hats off to you one and all. The ladies in the tea room to the stewards in the fields and around the roads, you were mighty. Great atmosphere too around the route. LOVED your signage by the way....!!!! :) :()

Very funny! It was a lovely course and easy to exit when race was over. Well done to everyone involved . Top marks
