Report from the organisers....ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL EVENT FOR COOLAGOWN 5K
Weather conditions ‘cool and dry with no rain’ favoured the running of the Coolagown 5k last Thursday evening which allowed the large crowd to enjoy the Race and Walk in the pretty setting of Coolagown village. 60 adults and up to 100 children took part in the Walk and over 250 runners registered for the 5k Run.
With a commentary throughout the race by Dick O’Brien, the first runner home in a time of 15.20 was James McCarthy, East Cork AC, 2 nd place was Sean McGrath, East Cork AC in 15.50 and in 3 rd place Andrew Sheehan, Leevale AC in 16.13.
The ladies were not far behind and first home was Martina Kiely, St. Finbarrs AC in 18.03, 2 nd place Niamh Roe, Leevale AC in 18.40 and in 3 rd place Eileen O’Callaghan, Eagle AC in 19.06.
After the Race and Walk the crowd enjoyed refreshments and home baking prepared by the Parents Association of Kilmagner NS, which was very much enjoyed by all. Goody Bags for the children and bottles of water were sponsored by St Nicholas AC – a very generous gesture greatly appreciated by Coolagown Development Group.
Once again the event was jointly sponsored by Rathbarry Stud and Fitzgerald Fallen Animal Services who presented the Cash Prizes to the first three male and three female winners. Coolagown Development Group acknowledges the very generous and always willing annual sponsorship of this important fund-raising event. Without this sponsorship it would be impossible to hold the event, the proceeds of which is shared between the Development Group and Kilmagner NS.
The organisers also acknowledge the generosity of those who supplied and erected the tents on the village Green and the many local people who volunteered to act as stewards and who helped in all sorts of ways throughout the very enjoyable evening.
A nice 5k course, well organised and a great spread after. Well done to all.
ReplyDeleteFantastic race. Well organised and great atmosphere around the whole route. Running through the village was like being at the Olympics! Take a bow St Nicks AC.
ReplyDeleteEverything about this 5k in Coolagown is superb. My memory of last nights race is the huge crowds in the village cheering on the runners in the last 1/2 mile. Made for a great atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteAnd its a great idea to have the food outdoors on the green afterwards.
Well done St Nicks AC - everybody, including all the runners, had a great evening.
