Results & Photos of the Cork BHAA UCC 10k road race - Sun 3rd Apr 2016

The annual Cork BHAA UCC 10km road race was held on the usual Lee Road / Straight Road circuit on Sunday the 3rd of April 2016. Conditions for the race were pretty good with a small bit of sunshine at times. In fact, it was pretty lucky in that there was rain earlier in the morning and a heavy drizzle returned in the early afternoon.

This race consistently gets good numbers every year so it was always going to be interesting to see how it would hold up against previous years. In 2016, a total of 483 runners took part which was down 9.5% on the 2015 figure.

Despite the fact that it was lower than the previous three years, the figure is still very good for a road race in Cork.

As you can see from the chart above, the UCC race used to get about 150 runners in the early 2000's before the running boom started in about 2006. The numbers have grown since then until they leveled off around 2012.

The one change this year was that the entry fee for non-reg runners went from €8 to €10. Did this have an impact? I'm be inclined to think it didn't. We'll have to wait until next year to see if this is a trend of just a blip.

  1. I have to say this years finish line was a lot safer and its was nice to come in off that long straight road. Nice spread also . Well done to UCC

  2. Well done UCC, especially in terms of safety, and number of stewards, gardai on the route. It was very noticeable that they had huge numbers out helping to steward etc
    Very enjoyable race.

  3. Great race as usual! Always one I look forward to. Liked the new finish in the Lee fields also.
Small suggestion - the turn into the fields creates a chicane corner as you take a sharp left followed by a sharp right. It really broke your stride in the last 800m. Could they look at this for next year. Think you could probably cut the corner and run over the grass instead of the right turn and it would solve it.
