  1. What's the delay in the results,I thought that's the beauty of chip timing

  2. A big Thank you to the 90 minute pacers...positively the most motivating pacers ever!

  3. Even with chip timing, some of the chips won't get picked up. They probably want to cross check everything to make sure they got everyone.

  4. I overheard a few saying that they didn't bother with the loop (at the start) and instead waited by the garage to join the rest of the athletes who had completed their 1st mile. Wonder if the delay with the timing has anything to do with more finishers than beginners?

    1. Why bother signing up for a 10 miler if you're not going to do the distance. They should be disqualified

  5. To be honest it was a mess at the finish where we queued to have after number taken after the finish... FOR WHAT?? we had passed over a mat with the chip on.. Won't bwe in hurry there again.. 20 mins standing on a cold jan afternoon just to get a t-shirt

    1. To be fair if you weren't that bothered about the t-shirt you could have just headed off.

In all fairness, you paid €25 euro and the top you waited so valiantly around for in the freezing temperatures of 10degreesis worth at least that if not more. Not to mention the excellent stewarding, people waiting more than 100 mins in the 'cold' to usher every one around and support, the water tables, the goody bag and milk at the finish and the spread after which is consistently the best at any race all year.
These people need to be thanked and congratulated for the effort they put in every year- mistakes happen, glitches occur- they were volunteering there Sunday off its the least they deserve.

  6. There seems to have been an issue with the club chip timing system according to their Facebook page. I think they are endeavoring to compile a manual set of results. Operating a chip timing systems for an event that big seems like a very big task for amateur volunteers.

  7. Very well run event as always. Well done to everyone involved. Getting that number of runners over a 10mile course is not simple. But they make its look easy. Take a bow!

  8. Yep on their facebook page they mention they had issues. But that can happen and they came straight out and said it. When other races, that we won't mention, have issues they put their head in the sand and hope it will all blow over.

1st time doing the race yesterday and really enjoyed it. Huge numbers but from what I could tell it went smoothly. There was a bit of a wait at the end, might have been worse if the weather was colder or wet, so they might think about how to do that better next year.

Well done to West Waterford AC

  10. Fourth time doing this event and despite carrying an injury and not in the best shape I really enjoyed it. Really well organised as for the spread of food afterwards - unreal. Thanks to West Waterford for putting on a great event.

  11. My 1st time doing the dungarven 10 miles and i have to say it was a great one. I enjoyed it greatly. very well run well marshalled and a fantastic support to cheer us on.The downside was the waiting to get the t shirt and goody bag. which by the way are quiet nice shirts. I was very happy with my run and a big thank you to martin the 90 pacer he was manic at the end to get us over the line. The food spread afterwards was great too. thanks for a great day in Dungarven even running down country roads with the smell of the country all around Thanks all round will hope to be back next year.

  12. I always enjoy this race as it's fantastically well organised and yesterday was no different. The issue with the chip timing was unfortunate and I understand that WWAC were working late in to the night to try and record all times manually. The delay for the goody bags was a result of the timing issues. It was just one of those things and was a pity that it happened as this club leave no stone unturned when it comes to this or any other race. Still the best race around IMHO.

  13. It was my first Dungarvan 10 and hopefully the first of many. All stewarding and food afterwards was excellent. I would particularly like to thank the 80 minute pacers for motivating me to a PB. The volunteers and the members of the public were fantastic. HOWEVER, and this is not offered as a criticism- but highlighting a systems failure- the 15 minute crawl through the after race area was not pleasant. I would gladly have missed out on the goody bag if I was informed that the chip timing failed and there was a problem. I had myself timed so im not annoyed that the chip timing failed. Shit Happens and no one died!!I have enough running tops already. We were lucky that it wasn't bucketing down because standing around in the cold for 15 minutes after the race isn't on at all. I would gladly have left the queue and hobbled back to the centre for a shower and a coffee- minus gooday back etc etc if i knew there was a problem. WWAC need a Plan B for this in the future and I am sure that they are discussing it and putting together possible solutions.. This is not a criticism of the stewards, volunteers, people of Dungarvan etc etc. I hope its not whiney or moany because I really enjoyed the race and the course and I got to see the legend that is John Treacy. Looking forward to improving my PB next year and will definitely be applying early in October.

  14. This was my first Dungarvan 10 and I hope it won't be my last. Big thanks to the 70 minute pacers for getting me through it. And what fantastic value for money. Between the t-shirt, goody bag, pints of milk and grub we all got more than our moneys worth. Probably the best value for money race in Munster. I've waited longer in line in a non chipped race to have my number recorded than I did to collect my bag. It must have been a nightmare for the organisers when they found out there was a problem with the chip timing and I'm sure there will be a lot of hard work involved to get the results sorted out, so fair play to them. A big thanks to the organisers, marshalls and all other volunteers involved in the running of this race.

  15. It's a great event, not an accident that it sells out quickly year after year. Too bad the chip timing failed but these things happen.

Ran with one of the pace group myself & must say they were the most supportive lads I've come across.

Thanks to West Waterford for all the great organising!

  17. This is a classic event that's organised by great sports people and volunteers year in, year out...To say that People queued for T-shirts in the cold is a Joke...LADS, IT WAS 12 DEGREES..F.F.S..

We have ran this race in the past in sub zero temperatures and nobody complained...Be patient and give the guys a break...We will be back next year for another guaranteed sell out.

    Bring on Ballycotton..

  18. Great race and atmosphere. People should not be critical of these events.

  19. Fantastic race again by WWAC...For me this is arguably the best race in the country. Ballycotton is good too but this beats it for me. T-shirt, food and drink and an fantastic course. All for 25 euro. Fantastic!

Other races could learn a lot from WWAC

  20. Didn't run but have been keeping an eye out to see the results. Have to say I find the communication from WWAC excellent on the matter. They can straight out within a couple of hours and said there was a problem with the chip and have continually gave updates on whats happening and when they will be out.
Problems occur regularly in events but alot won't admit to a mistake/error and secondly won't keep the runners updated either. The default reaction to issues is generally silence with results appearing after about a week.
Well done WWAC, ye're setting the bar high here and other events could learn alot.

  21. 1st dungarvan 10 mile and really enjoyed it, timing issue was unfortunate but these things happen, imagine if it was the Clon Half that this happened, wonder would everyone be so understanding. Stewarding, top was great and spread afterwards was great too. Still would favour Ballycotton 10 as been better race but Dungarvan not too far behind and lets not forget Mallow 10.

  22. A brilliant course and always very enjoyable. A pity about the chip system problem. Plenty of water all the way round the course too. Hopefully the organisers/volunteers for the Ballycotton 10 will be able to provide to follow their example with the water this year?

  23. Have run every year since 2012, excellent event. The matter with the chips was unfortunate but it can happen to any race, the main thing is that wwac put their hands and are in the process of sorting it out. Plenty of years in this event yet.

  24. Great day out as usual.... although everybody down in dungarvan on sunday can have an opinion and express them...

  25. Hi all I just looked at the result printed I understand they are provisional results. I noted my finishing time is out by at least 20 min as i came over the line with the 90 pacer. Just wondering how can i get it rectified . Thanks for any info.

    ReplyDelete
  26. If anyone has issues just send a mail to info@westwaterfordathletics.org

I sent on mail earlier today and got a good prompt response from James.

The results are provisional so if you send in your query they will handle it in due course.

Once again WWAC are handling this very professionally.

  27. Hi Collette just contact West Waterford AC (email address from their website) and tell them your name, bib number and your estimate finish time. They will review the finish line video and update your time accordingly. I did this myself yesterday and it worked fine. West Waterford AC are updating the results sheet over the next week with amendments.

  28. thanks I did contact them and they are going to amend my time. The listed time is 20 min out and i have just spotted a photo of me and the pacer martin running head to head. So hopefully it will soon be sorted. Thanks for the reply.
