The IAAF today announced the new qualifying standards for the 2016 Olympics in Rio...
The new marathon standard is weaker than for the 2012 Olympics in London when it was 2:15 and 2:37.
* Note that these are the IAAF standards and Athletics Ireland may well impose a more stringent standard. Every country can only send 3 athletes per event.
The immediate impact is that there are now 8 Irish men inside the new 2:19 qualifying standard...
