Runner dies in Dublin Half-Marathon...
Last weekend, the Dublin Half-Marathon was held in the Phoenix Park and attracted a field of over 6700 runners. Unfortunately, a 23 year old man named John McHugh died near the end of the race due to what was described as a 'cardiac event'. A similar incident happened in the 2013 race.
While any death is tragic, it just seems even more so when the person is just 23 years old and they have their whole life ahead of them.
The standard advice for anyone undertaking any type of vigorous training programme is that they should get medical clearance first. I would guess that the vast of people just start training away without giving it much thought.
If you have any reason to suspect you might have any type of cardiac issues be it from your family history or any hint of a warning sign then you might consider have a chat with your doctor.
