BBC Radio 4 podcast about the great Emil Zatopek

The Czech Emil Zatopek could arguably be called the greatest athlete of the 20th century. He is best remembered for winning the Gold medal in the 5000m, 10000m and marathon in the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki.

In an era before sports science really took off, his training methods which included running in army boots and doing 100 x 400m intervals became stuff of legend.

This week, the BBC Radio 4 programme Great Lives looked back at the remarkable man. The podcast is 27 mins long and can be heard HERE.
