The Cork event last year attracted around 1,900 people and it looks likely that a similar number will want to take part in this unique event around the streets of the city at night this year as well.
You can enter this race on the event website... http://www.runinthedark.org/
The only big change this year is that the runners will be avoiding Paul Street and will be using a section of the quays instead.
More details in later posts..
Did this last year. Didnt enjoy lapping the city streets, up and down off paths, paths were slippy as it was a damp night, parts of route were not lit up very well.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame they didnt alter the route. The 10k route that was The samsung night run in april was super by comparisson.
Great cause, lovely atmosphere but wont be doing it this year.
Don't understand reasons behind this comment.
ReplyDeleteIs it that this runner didn't enjoy last year or is it just pointing out some of the obvious stuff ie
Run in the Dark so I guess it won't be lit up like
The Aviva stadium on match night
In the city so I guess there are some footpaths to be negotiated
In November so I guess there is a slight chance it could be damp.
Disappointed that I couldn't make it last year but will definitely do this year. Small sufferings compared those faced by Mark on a daily basis
Have to agree with the first comment. The route is terrible. As well as the whole issue of paths and narrow streets the 4 lap 10k and 2 lap 5k causes so much confusion. Then you're also hitting the back of slower runner/walkers constantly. As they said the samsung night run managed to put on a great course, dunno why this one can't.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat great cause but won't be running it again unless the lapped course is changed
Hopefully this year they have the timing mat in the right place so it will count the laps unlike last year where it was off the course.
ReplyDeleteThe timing mat isnt there to count the laps just your finish time.
ReplyDeleteTiming mat does do both. Last year there were several runners who only completed 3 laps instead of 4 but were given 10 k time. Appropriate placing of timing mats would have identified and eliminated those who were not good at counting up to 4.
ReplyDeleteGreat cause but very expensive for a 10km with a poor route and no tshirt/medal at the end, great charity but price is very steep.
