There seems to have been a big drop in numbers this year with 85 runners taking part. Last year when it was part of the Ballyhoura Active Series, it had 131. Coming one day after the Ballycotton 5 probably didn't help either although the catchment area would be a bit different.
1 35:40 FEEHAN, Maurice Gneeveguilla AC M 05:44.3
2 37:16 TREACY, John unatt/Thurles M 05:59.7
3 37:27 DALY, Noel Mallow AC M40 06:01.5
4 37:50 FINN, Michelle Leevale AC F 06:05.2
10 40:59 DAVEY-FITZGERALD, Lorna Mallow AC F35 06:35.6
11 40:59 TWOHIG, Denise St. Finbarrs AC F40 06:35.6

The reduction in numbers might be down to the Open X-country event in Newcastle west which would be in the same catchment area John?
ReplyDeleteMust say the 10km course was a dream to run on, great profile for a pb, one of the best road surfaces i've run on all year and a very welcoming atmosphere from the club and locals. Well done Liscarroll AC, this is an event I will look forward to again next year.
True, probably a bit of everything. Just so many events on at the moment. Loads to choose from.
ReplyDeleteAlso...173 runners in Castleisland for the 5k there which would have taken a lot of the runners from Kerry.
ReplyDeleteNo this race was not part of the Ballyhoura series last year either. They were part of it 2 years ago. Ballycotton 5 would have taken a lot of runners for sure. Pity. good race. Well done Liscaroll AC
ReplyDeleteIt's very unusual that the biggest club in the area had no runners attend. Pity as these races need support from all local clubs
ReplyDeleteTom
Out of curiosity, to which club are you referring to, Tom ?
ReplyDeleteHaving the race a night after the ballycotton 5 was just poor organisation. They should of opted for the following weekend. I would of liked to do both but not possible and so would a number of people i know.. Xcountry in newcastlewest and castleisland were only minor factors.. Ballycotton is a very popular and well organised event and probably prevented up to 100 people doing liscarroll..
ReplyDeleteAlong with the 10km&10mile run in Kinsale this weekend, there really is a lot to choose from. Live & learn I suppose.
ReplyDeleteI emailed the organisers of the above race and asked them if they could postpone the date of the above race. I emailed last July but the was no budge form the oragnisers - the phrase used was "the race goes ahead" despite the clash with BC 5. Their own fault. Hopefully they will learn form it as it is a very good race
ReplyDeleteHave to agree with above did this race past 2 yrs but not this year due to clash with ballycotton series. If they want this race to grow n numbers they need to push it out by a week its def a great race just poor planning
ReplyDeleteThe dig at north cork is uncalled for.
ReplyDeleteSorry I should of said. North Cork of course. Not from Cork myself but travel a bit to races and considering Liscarol is in north cork but no runners from one of the strongest local clubs would make me thing that there is something wrong with the race. As a club I see north cork are really good at supporting local events so I would think there is something strange about the event and I wouldn’t travel to the event if the local club didn’t support.
ReplyDeletewell done liscarroll ac .great race..if i remember the bc 5 was a week before the liscarroll race last year ,why did they move there date this year? And regarding the biggest club in the area not attending well all il say is therl be road running after us all, let us all enjoy it.
ReplyDelete??? I'm not sure what this race has to do with North Cork AC? They held their own very successful 5k race in Doneraile Park recently and they have been very active at supporting the Ballyhoura series races. There are a glut of events on the calendar and it's not up to them to attend every single local one. It's not fair to highlight them in particular as you could just as easily pick any other club within a 20 mile radius.
ReplyDeleteIf the numbers are down then it's an issue for the host club.
The Ballycotton Series races are always on the 4th Thursday of May, June, July and August. 8pm, 8pm, 8pm & 7:30pm. It's the same every year.
Great race, great route. A small bottle of water at the water station would be great as you can never be guaranteed to get a sufficient amount to drink with spillages from the paper cups. And when it's only one water station it's vital to get a good drink. Other than that ... well done Liscarroll AC.
ReplyDeleteI think the ballycotton 5 may have been a reason for the drop in numbers but not the main reason. In other years when it was part of the Ballyhoura series, it had plenty of publicity and the numbers were well up. This year there didn't seem to be any news about it happening. I'm not exactly a local but I would have went if I had known it was on.
