Great race and lovely evening for it. Well stewarded and the spread after was great again this year. Two negatives, the finish line was tight as it was backed up. Got no T-Shirt! We were so long in the finishing Chute that the people who finished behind in the adjoining chutes were able to get one... I guess the race is so popular they under estimated how many they would need.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed it as well. Agree with the first poster about the finish line. I joined the middle queue when the other 2 were empty. Was waiting ages just to get my number taken. Meanwhile the other 2 lanes were opened and people who finished ages behind me went ahead and got processed.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm unconvinced that my finishing place list in the PDF is correct. You could change this to 1 exit lane that loops back over the 3 parallel lanes. The other thing that completely threw me off was the waypoint markers were in miles even though it was a 5k race. The map on the web showed 1,2,4 ! I'm new to all this so when I got to the 3m (which i thought was 3km) marker I stopped running and walked not realising I was only 100m from the finish!
As I said I really enjoyed it and am only pointing these out so you can make it even better next year.
Great race and great amount of volunteers around. thanks so much to all involved. I was so delighted to have ran my first ever 5k but got no t-shirt at the end. was so disappointed because I would have loved to say 'I did that and got the t-shirt'. will more be issued that we can collect from Novartis ?
ReplyDeleteAll races in Ireland are generally given mile markers, 5km = 3.12 miles. You must be very new if while running you got confused between the two. They even announced about being mile markers prior to race start which I commented on was hardly necessary. Good race, it is every year, heard they ran out of t-shirts, races might have to cover themselves saying first 500 runners etc.
ReplyDeleteCan the site please change the program used to leave posts. The words are sometimes impossible to read even if i'm a sane human being and not a robot.
Well done to 16 year old David Fox of Leevale coming in 6th overall, a star of the future...
ReplyDeleteSome race,s are marked in kms. 10k last friday in shannonvale was marked in kms. Did ,nt seem to make it any shorter though!
ReplyDeleteAgree with comments about t-shirts, I was annoyed, as it was advertised as t-shits for ALL finishers!! And also the finish line - we were stopped just before line as there was a queue backed up... otherwise a great course, a good mix of uphills and downhills, will do it again next year (and hopefuly get a t-shirt!!)
ReplyDeletereally enjoyed it, nice course. love the t-shirt!
ReplyDeleteIt was disgraceful that there were not t shirts for all finishers They should know they always get great crowds. Then the food ran out no sandwiches left yet loads of kids and people who didn't run seemed to be walking out with them whilst we waited in the queue after running to get nothing. To crown things the organisers hadn't the DECENCY to apologise for lack of T shirts or food and kept us waiting until after ten o'clock for results of an eight o'clock 5 km race. This used to be a great race sadly no longer.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great race as usual. The stewarding was superb. I was a supporter rather than a runner this year, my 21 year old daughter had a PB & she was delighted. Thanks to BHAA for organising race.
ReplyDeleteI agree they least they could have done was apologise for lack of t shirts and food.Very bad form.Wont be back but they don't seem to care.
ReplyDelete(I'm the person who got confused by the mile markers). I've only ever run one other race which was the Cork to Carrigaline 25k Railway line run earlier this year. I did the last 5k of that and there were markers at every km. I thought miles were got rid of in the last century :). Seems a bit daft to advertise a race in metric and then have measurements in a totally different system. Anyway it completely threw me psychologically.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the race, even though if im honest i did find it tough. Have done a few races now, and the hills get me everytime but i kept going and was happy with that. I do agree about the T- Shirts, we didnt know where to go and nobody we asked cared just said there gone! To beginners getting a t-shirt is an achievement of all the hard work.
ReplyDeleteI always fail to understand people who come on this forum after races, complaining about pretty trivial matters. Ran out of t-shirts, so what. Before people come on here whining, they should consider all the volunteers that give of their own free time so that us, the runners, just turn up, register, and run.
ReplyDeleteWe have the damn easy part - just spare a thought for those hero's who turn out race after race around the county, come rain, hail or sun, providing stewarding, road markings, taking finishers details, and organising parking. Without these people, us runners would have nothing - NOTHING - no organised outlet for our pastime.
So spare a thought before you type.
I, for one, really enjoyed the night. Nice route, slightly testing headwind after turning west around the 1mile mark, and the set-up ate Novartis was excellent.
Thanks to all the organisers for a great evenings running.
And great to see Gerry Forde back in competitive action again.
Great race really enjoyed the course only negative was the lack of T-Shirts when it said on the poster that all runners would get one???.Novartis should post some explanation.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I agree with John G on this, that being said I did get a t shirt and I do feel sorry for those who didn't
ReplyDeleteFirst time doing a 5k and delighted to go under 24 mins, the time listed on the bhaa site is out by about 15 seconds but as there was no timing chips that no issue for me
Thank Novartis and all who helped out, for sure ill see you next year
Fully agree with Johnny G as well. BHAA run superb events and all for €5. The level of stewarding and marshaling is always top notch and it's great to have a choice of events all year round for v little cost. You might be "guaranteed" a t-shirt at other events but it will cost you €20-30 extra for the privilege.
ReplyDeleteHuge thanks to all involved in bhaa and at Novartis for a great event. Will definitely be back!
Don,t think people are whining, they paid their money so they are entitled to express an opinion just like the poster praising the bhaa and stewards etc.Just because someone has a different view of things does,nt mean they are wrong.
ReplyDeleteGood event. With the unexpected large numbers attending, ran out of food. In 2014, BHAA could help themselves out by bringing in chip timing and offering a financial inducement for folk to pre-register online. As a consequence they would get a better handle on the numbers and process the results a lot quicker.
