Well organised, I think that means there were no problems;it was nearly 15 mins late starting and as usual, with a lot of races, they ran out of small t shirts. On the positive, there was plenty of water and mile time shouted at every marker.
ReplyDeleteHi John,
ReplyDeleteWondering why the chip times are not on the results?,my result was a clock time
Great race, well organised, enjoyed it despite weather conditions. One question - was were there timing mats at the start ? Didn't see any, my garmin time was well out from clock time. If there is chip timing, what is the point, if there isn't a mat at the start line ?
ReplyDeleteThere were no timing mats at the start line. As the road is open until just before the start of the race and it is so wide then it's not practical. Your time started on the start gun, not when you crossed the start line.
ReplyDeleteAs for what's the point...It's worth pointing out that the main reason for chip timing for any race is to generate a set of results for the organisers rather than trying to do it manually for 1500+ runners.
Where the start is wide like in Dungarvan, there shouldn't be much of a delay in crossing the start line.
Great fast course with some pulls, especially at mile 8 but you are rewarded with the last mile down hill. Very good goodie bag with a Nike dry fit top and food and water and also a fine spread put out in the sports hall afterwards. Excellent value for money.
ReplyDeleteOnly neg was the delayed start but that was due to a funeral and for James Veale to get the all clear for the Guards. They could of announced there would be a delay over the PA so we could do another warm up rather than standing in rain and hail not knowing when it was going to start.
Ran a PB of 64:50 so happy out.
Well done WWAC
Great Race. Awful weather. Thanks to stewards for standing out in it. Please bring more "XS" and "S" Shirts for the petite ladies. We will be back.
ReplyDeleteKeith, they were announcing the delay, and reason for the delay over the PA from about 12:45 onwards.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering if that lady at the roundabout at mile 2-3 was ok after??
ReplyDeleteGod what an awful day weather wise but u cant fault the organizers for that. it was unfortunate about the funeral but the group took it in good spirits until it started to hail stone.
A challenging day but a good day!
Well done to all involved.
A great race as always, v well run, excellent support, it kept our spirits up all along the way. Hope the participant at mile 3 is recovering well. We will be back again next year!
ReplyDeleteWell done WWAC. Understand delay and weather was out of your control. Support from the many stewards at water stops and en route was really appreciated. Also support from the public was fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThe spread after was great. Best cup of tea I've ever had.
My only suggestion for next year is please have spare small t shirts. As a female finishing at approx 100 minutes I now have a very large men's t shirt which I can unfortunately never wear.
A minor detail I realise!
A memorable day and the inclement weather made the achievement all the greater for me. Thanks WWAC.
Same as previous comment. Delay was understanable now, but frustrating at the start line when we didnt know. Couldnt hear public address. Maybe a steward walking thro the crowd would have helped. We are all human and understand that we had to give respect to a funeral and a family in mourning..
ReplyDeleteAs for stewarding, I also take part yearly in the Sean Kelly Cycle race and I have to say this area is BLESSED with the finest stewards in the country.
To stand there last Sunday for a few hours so that we could run deserves some form of award or recognition from all the Athletes.
Well done to all
Please please can races sort out the t shirt issue.I do a lot of races and never get to wear the t shirt as they normally have only large left.Should races look at giving out hats or gloves as blarney did;one size fits all and everyone can advertise race .
ReplyDeleteYes. Very dismayed we all were finishing at 95 mins to obtain t-shirt that is useless and can't be worn. That aside a fab goodie bag, fab spread afterwards and the best stewards ever! Was a great day despite the weather. Will do again! Well done all!
ReplyDeleteGreat run lovely course joe Murphy's pictures are all blank
ReplyDeletegreat race, great organisation...
ReplyDeleteEverybody involved i applaud you. But please dont resort to gloves and hats, as i never wear them so please, please resolve the t-shirt issue. Ill be back next year for sure.
Disappointed that there were no small t-shirts left for the women at the end..... Can't wear it with pride or promote the race as all I got was a large.
ReplyDeleteIDEA for next year would be to have the t-shirts sizes as part of registration so as to act as a rough guide to requirements....
Ref Joe Murphy's pics....I checked these om 3 different browsers and they all worked. If you are trying to view them at work then a firewall may be blocking them.

ReplyDeletejust some observations re: weather and the effect it most likely had on performance. Obviously standing around at the beginning and the first 3 miles it was fairly freezing, wet and windy. I compared my splits to the last time I ran Dungarvan which was in perfect conditions. My 2nd half was 10 seconds quicker than my first half this time (I dont have the discipline for negative splits)last time out it was 50 seconds slower. My actual time was 50 seconds slower this time even though my 2nd half split was 2 seconds quicker than my 2nd half split last time out.I felt I would have done a pb but for the conditions. Don't know what anyone else thinks.
Though I am grateful to get such a quality t-shirt & goodie bag for such a reasonable entry fee, I agree with comment re stating size when you register, this is a good idea, once it gives organisers enough time to place their t-shirt order. Having said that, the ladies size small was very big, so xs should be considered too (don't think there were separate ladies & mens sizes either. Not a complaint just feedback.
