Athletics Ireland recently released their membership numbers for the end of 2013. A breakdown of all the Cork clubs can be seen below...
Notes....Juveniles are under 19, Juniors are 19, Seniors are 20-34 and Masters are 35 and above.
In terms of adult membership of athletic clubs in Cork, these are the changes over the last 12 months ....
a) Midleton AC retains it's top spot with 5% growth in 2013 and now have 311 adult members.
b) St.Finbarr's AC stay in 2nd place and drop 3%.
c) Youghal AC have undergone an explosion in numbers and almost doubled with a 95% growth rate in 2013. They jump from 6th to 3rd.
d) Leevale AC who are a club with an strong emphasis on Track & Field events grew an impressive 32% in 2013 and move up to 4th.
e) Eagle AC based in Cork City grew by 12% in 2013 and retain their 5th position.
f) Bandon AC drop 3% in numbers and move down to 6th spot.
g) Mallow AC maintain their steady rise in numbers with a 28% growth rate in 2013 and and now in 7th place.
h) Bantry AC saw a drop in numbers in 2013 and go from 3rd to 8th place.
i) Ballintotis Fit4Life group in East Cork started up in 2013 and now have an impressive 100 members.
j) Togher AC are another club with an emphasis on Track & Field and grew by a huge 152% in 2013.
k) Galtee Runners based in Mitchelstown in NE Cork and grew by 53% last year.
Between 30 and 80 adult members...
As always, it's worth pointing out that the various clubs may be slightly different in that they often have their own priorities in terms of track and field, cross country, Fit4Lfe, marathon and half-marathon training and so on.
Well done Ballintotis for such an impressive year. Their 4ml race is one of the best in the country and probably the reason for their growth in local membership. Well done all concerned.
