This is another race which might be of interest to people over the Christmas period...the Bandon 5 on New Year's Day.
This popular race always gets a good turnout from both West Cork and Cork City alike. The course is a mixture of town and country running with only one real hill of note. The race is being organised by Bandon Athletic Club, one of the major clubs in Co.Cork.

I would like to go but why have it at lunchtime??? Surely a 10:00 or 11:00 start would be better and mean that it doesn't break up the day -I'd imagine most people would be having family lunches on New Year's day?
ReplyDeleteI think most people who run are happy to get out early, though maybe they're looking to entice non-runners (in which case a 5k would surely draw in a bigger crowd I'd imagine).
In fairness, I think many people may not be in a position to get up early on new years day. This race, which is always brilliantly organised, and mainly on quiet country roads, is traditionally a lunch time one. On completion of the race it's possible to return to the city for a "late lunch"
ReplyDelete3 prizes in over 50 category and only one at over 55 ? Sorry, don't see the logic here.
ReplyDeleteIt always amuses me when runners come on here, whinging about details relating to races. Its simple really - if if doesn't suit you or you don't like some aspect of it, then don't go. Its not as if there is a lack of races in the general Cork area.
ReplyDeleteAll these races are organised by volunteers, in fairness.
Well said Johnny G, well said!
