Athletics Ireland recently published a list of records for some of the stadiums in Ireland. In Cork, there are two tracks......one at CIT in Bishopstown and one at the Mardyke.
The Mardyke track was of course home to the Cork City Sports for many years and no doubt, most of the records there were set probably during those years. Looking through the list, many of the records were set back in the 80's and 90's. Interesting to see that the fastest time for any 100 metre race in Cork was set there back in 2009....10.12 seconds. The Mardyke list is HERE
In more recent years, the Cork City Sports has moved to the CIT track in Bishopstown and the track records tend to be newer. One to note here was the 800m record of 1:48.21 set back in 1995 by Marcus O'Sullivan. Both Paul Robinson and Mark English ran faster times than that this year. The 800m is not included in the Cork City Sports probably because of the popularity of the mile race but it might make a nice alternative to say the 3000m event. The CIT list can be seen HERE.
The hammer throw by Yuri Sedykh of 86.34 in 1984 was actually a World Record at the time. Commerative plaque on outside wall of rugby pavilion remembers this.
