Live action from the Mens 50k race walk at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow

8:05am Rob Heffernan 1st...Robert Heffernan has a 3second lead over Noskov, Ryzhov, and Sudol.
8:08am Heffernan is away now with the two Russian's Noskov and Ryzhov  for company. Sudol starting to struggle approx. 3-4 seconds back
8:12am Heffernan and Ryzhov pull away at 36km, Noskov about 5 sec back. Diniz has pulled out.
8:14am Leading the World at the 35km point. Both Russians still going strong with Sudol now 7 seconds back. 15k to go!
8:17am Rob surges through the 37km point in 2:42:16 with only Ryzhov able to go with him, the belief is there, 13k to go!
8:20 Brendan Boyce moves into the top 30, in 29th now at 35k in 2:43:18

8:26am Rob Heffernan pulling away at the front, 5 metre lead over Ryzhov.

8:28am Heffernan leading Ryzhov by 2 seconds at the 40k mark, but has just received a warning. Three of those means DQ.
8:30am Rob Heffernan shoots away at 41km, lead of 20m over Ryzhov now with 9km to go.
8:31am Rob puts in a 5km split of 21.18 from 35km-40km point. Will this be enough to break Ryzhov?
8:37am The temperatures are soaring and Ryzhov seems to be wilting! Rob moving fluently with a 25m gap over his rival
8:42am Rob Heffernan with a solid lead in the final 7km, around 10-sec over Mikhail Ryzhov. Sudol, Noskov, Tallent behind. Boyce 29th.
8:44am Heffernan has just lapped Quentin Rew of New Zealand, who's given him a great gee-up. 12-sec lead over Ryzhov.

  15. Well done Robert on your marvellous performance. You truly are an inspiration to all who participate in athletics. Great to see a Cork man on the top of the podium at the world championships. All we need now in Cork, is the Liam Maccarthy cup in 3 wk's time.
