The 31st of August 2013......Today is the 58th birthday of Ed Moses, one of the all time greats in the world of athletics. Throughout the late 70's and early 80's, Ed Moses of the USA dominated the world of 400m hurdles.
He won Gold at the 1976 and 1984 Olympic Games and bronze at the 1988 Seoul games. He was World Champion in 1983 in Helsinki and in 1987 in Rome.
His personal best time of 47.02 seconds was set exactly 30 years ago today in Koblenz, West Germany on his 28th birthday. Only one person, Kevin Young of the USA has run faster and that was in 1992 at the Barcelona Olympics when he set a new world record of 46.78s, a record that still stands today.
Besides his medal tally, a quick look at the stats show what a phenomenon Ed Moses was...
He broke the world record 4 times...
He won 122 consecutive races...
...and he remained undefeated for 9 years, 9 months and 9 days.
The video below shows the career of one of the all time greats (26 mins long)...
