A combined total of 569 runners took part in this year's Bandon Half-Marathon and 10k road race. The numbers in the Half-Marathon were 241, a 9.5% increase on last years figure of 220. In the 10k road race, 328 runners took part, down slightly on the 345 of 2012.
This was the second year of doing this particular half-marathon and it really is a nice course. Sure, it's tough and there are no shortage of hills but it is so much nicer to be running on quiet country roads with no traffic that to be running at the side of a road with the traffic whizzing by. If you completed the 10k course this time, then maybe you should consider the Half-Marathon course next year? The roads where the 10k didn't go are probably the nicest part of the Half-Marathon.
As for the rest of the event, everything seemed to go just fine. The half-marathon really had a feel of a large club race about it and Bandon AC did a great job of handling the numbers.
Did you do the half or 10k? What did you think of it?

Ran the half-marathon and enjoyed it even though I'm not great with hills, and there was some corkers. Pb'd but just missed breaking 1.30.
ReplyDeleteThought the whole set-up was good, amble parking and plenty of stewards. I enjoyed the run-in and thought the 10km joined in at just the right time, they got it spot on pace wise.
Goody bags don't bother me but it was decent. All in all well worth it and would definitely come back.
Great race really enjoyed it and a mighty spread in the Rugby Club after. Looking forward to next year already
ReplyDeleteDid the half, great race I thought. Loads of cheerful marshalls, great water stops and super atmosphere at the finish. Well done to the organisers. The addition of the walkers and the pacers added to the event this year. After the backlash about the hills the first year, the race is known for them now and makes it a bit different. Tough out though.
ReplyDeleteDid this last year. A cracking race but considering it is 3 weeks away to Cork marathon, had to do my last long run instead. It would have better to have this race last week or next week
ReplyDeleteDid the half earlier, enjoyed it although it's one of the harder ones. The quiet country roads come in handy if you have to make a toilet stop :-) Good water stops, well positioned and good support.
ReplyDeletesuper race well done Bandon AC
ReplyDeleteDid the half-marathon for the first time found it really tough but enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I thought the overall organisation of the race was really good well done to all involved.
My first time doing this race and I found it really tough but enjoyable one. I am also doing Cork marathon so I put in a couple of easy miles in before and after this race so it would do as my last long run. Great organisation, well done to Bandon AC.
ReplyDeleteThis was my first 10k. Are they all like this? Very helpful officials great atmosphere at the start and finish. Was knackered after took bus back to Rugby club. Smiling faces and great food. I will be back.
ReplyDeleteWell done to BandonAc. Very tough half marathon but brilliantly organised. But the hills, felt like they never ended but still lovely route. Marshals brill & a lovely group running who were very helpful when struggling on those hills. Gr8 race will be back!
ReplyDeleteMy first half marathon enjoyed the scenery in spite of the hills, thanks and well done to all concerned. A big thanks to Brendan & Co whos company on a difficult route was very much appreciated.
ReplyDeletewell done Bandon AC and all involved. Great course, parking was easy, registration was quick. Well marshalled and the results were even on the Club House wall by the time we got back to have the tea and spread.
ReplyDeleteAlso great to see that some proceeds are going towards a running track in Bandon, this will be a very welcome resource in West Cork.
Once again another brilliantly organised run.
ReplyDeleteRan the half marathon. An excellent race, though the hills make it a tough course. Great support from the marshalls. The water bottles were a brill idea ... cups don't allow you get enough fluids. The sandwiches ... super-fresh! Well done to all involved in organising the race.
ReplyDeleteWell done Bandon, a really good race. Lots of Stewards, great support all along the course. I've run lots of half marathons and this is up there with the best of them. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI completed the 10 k! I was very happy about the set up. My sister entered me for the race. The parking was organised well, the start of the race was very near by, there was a nice gap between the 10 k and Half Marathon races. The introduction of walkers to the race was good. A great spread of sandwiches and tea afterwards and friendly banter. Definitely I would do this race again.
ReplyDeleteA very well done to bandon ac it was a fantastic set up, very pleased with finishing 10k as it was my first one the marshalls were very helpful and friendly with a lovely spread to finish off the day , will try out for the half marathon next year thank you to all involved .
