Photos of the Cork BHAA Bord Gais 5k race - Sun 10th Mar 2013
Conditions were a bit on the damp side for this one. The full results should be out soon. In the meantime, here are some photos from Doug Minihane...HERE
Great set of photos. Well done to everyone who ran on a cold morning that was always threatening rain or even sleet. With reference to John's comments there were quite a few more non club runners at this race than club runners but that aside I wouldn't be of the opinion that any runner should feel they owe it to their club to turn up to an event. Far better for the runners to want to compete themselves I'd say.
John you run as a way to exercise its only a small few who compete to win prizes the rest race the clock, you run with your club and let each individual decide wats best for dem. Evan
I don't think John is on about non club runners but I've to agree with him The turnout for the inter clubs and munster roads were poor Its just sad to see club runners running races for money instead of running for your clubs on championship days
If the powers that be sanctioned 2 races in the same county then why should any individual feel "Shamed" for making a decision to enter an officially sanctioned race. Any person who was brave enough to turn up to run yesterday morning on a cold, wet and windy day should be applauded for there courage
Each INDIVIDUAL runner should have the CHOICE to run when and where they want regardless of whether they are club runners or not. The same people should not always be relied upon to go to every championship. It's very easy to comment and tell people to go to a certain race, when they themselves are not even taking part or travelling to support the race. Running is a pasttime for most of us, so let everyone get on with their own plans. For the vast majority of us, running is not about money/prizes, its about going somewhere because of the organisation of it, the location, the distance, the time, the enjoyment, and a person's own personal plans for the day!
Is this conversation really happening? Unless the Munster Club Championships were missing a ton of lady runners running their first race, there's no reason to be complaining about it. And I hardly think people forewent a championship race for their club for the big bucks and glory of a BHAA prize.
There should be no shame put on anyone for running any race whatsoever. Im sure if someone was needed for a team they would have went if they were able to go. For most people Sunday is family day. The business houses are grand and handy in that they are on early and you dont need to travel far. You still have the rest of day to spend as a family or take kids to whatever activities they have. For the majority of people the business houses are about a personal goal and self development. There's no pressure from anyone other than yourself. You can run along and nobody notices if you have a bad race. The championships are a lot more stressful and you can come away feeling you let your team down if you didn't perform well. That said nobody just have to justify their reasons for choosing One event over another. At the end of the day running is a personal thing.
Ten Mile races are having a bigger drag on Munster Championship than the BHAA race. Ballycotton was the week before so that also has to be taken into account.
John they weren't exactly the Olympics on down the Marina. Majority of the top runners were @ Ballycotton last week and were probably recovering . There weren't many club colours in the photos either ..
Too many races, clash of dates, permits or not... it's all high class problems ! We love the choice and variety of races offered in Cork. Let the people decide !
Lads ye should have been down at the Munster Clubs representing your clubs Shame on ye!!!!!

'Shame on ye' ?? ... And who said that to you when you were younger, John. Was it your mother or father?

Well I think its time they stop given out race permits on championship days .. That would help to make our championship races competitive again

ReplyDeleteBHAA races are not subject to AAI permits so there is no way to prevent a clash.
