Joanne Cuddihy runs 52.09 in Round 1 of the womens 400m

Joanne Cuddihy finished 4th in 52.09 after slowing in the last 100m. Despite the fact that this time was well down on her 2012 best of 51.43, she did have the advantage that the weather was dry for her heat.

For the second heat, the heavens opened up and gave the track a good soaking. This obviously had an impact on the bends for the remaining heats. Joannes time of 52.09 was good enough to qualify as one of the fastest finishers. She now goes through to the semi-finals on Saturday with 24 runners remaining.

  1. Very cynical about the rain but we'll take what we can get! C'mon Ireland!
