Start of the 2012 Dunmanway 10k race in bright sunshine
....with some ominous dark clouds in the background!

first time doing this race - run alot of races in Cork area and this is well up there in terms of organisation and atmostphere. Lovely course, lots of water in small bottles, great food and chip timing - all for 12 euro on the day...wonder why other races are so expensive?? will def be back!!
ReplyDeleteReal Irish weather for this one. Lovely sun at the start line and up to the 2mile mark. Then, in an instant, torrential rain for the rest of the race. Unreal. Great race - organisers had put a lot into this one, including various points around the course blaring out music, which added to the atmosphere. Really scenic route - i found the drag around miles 3 and 4 deceptively tough. Good food at the finish, and very welcome hot showers. Well done to all in Dunmanway. I will be back.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed it again this year, chip timing was a nice addition. Only thing I'll say is that I couldn't hear a word of what was said at the start, and I was only half way down the field. Other than that, and the weather of course, it was a great event!
ReplyDeleteExcellent race. One of the best organised races I have been to. Lovely route. The music at various points around the course and the support was superb.
ReplyDeleteVery well organised race, great turn out, challenging but fair course, nice scenery, plenty parking, lively msuic all over the course, chip timing, great food afterwards, near instant results....this race could easily become the Ballycotton of the west.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pity about the downpour, all the more so as it seemed so localised. Went further south west afterwards and no evidece of any rain at all.
A huge congrats to the organisers and volunteers. I'll be back to better my time next year.
Fantastic race, the organizers had all the dilemma's that could possibly happen at a race.....yet they did a superb professional friendly job.....well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat day out, the music was a nice addition and inspirational..just wondering what was the song playing at the 3.4 mile mark...was it Kate Bush?
ReplyDeleteI'll be back for this race next year! maybe a disco at the end is something to consider.
This has the makings of a Blockbuster! Just flawless all the way from arrival, Start, Course, Finish, Results, everything in fact. This is in the category already of must do races every year. Well Done!!
ReplyDeleteThis was an excellently organised race, well done Dunmanway. I'll be back.
ReplyDeleteGreat race, second time doing it, chip timing was a great addition this year. Only thing missing for me was a medal or goodie bag at the end but apart from that fantastically organised race.
