The organisers of the Cork City Marathon have just put up some info on their website which might be of interest to those of you doing the Marathon, Half-Marathon or Relay.
The have a provisional list of Marathon entrants HERE and Half-Marathon Entrants HERE
At a quick look, I'd suspect that the number of Marathon runners is down this year while the number of Half runners is way up (limit of 1,000 in 2011).
Some points from their site.......
1) Registration is at Cork City Hall on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June.
2) Start Times - The Marathon and Team Relay will start on St Patrick's Street at 9am. The start time for the Half Marathon is 11am at Ringmahon Road.
3) Water Stations......There will be 14 water stations on the course, with additional water available at the start of the half marathon and at the finish line. The water will be a mix of bottles and cups. Mains drinking water will be available at 5 stations across the course, so if you carry your own bottle you can fill up at any of these stations too. The energy drink will be Lucozade Sports, which will be distributed in cups. If you ask for a bottle, they will give you one.
4) Time limits......The course time limit is 6 hours for the marathon and relay and 3.5 hours for the half marathon. After that, the GardaĆ may ask you to move onto the footpaths but the finish line will stay in place for 7 hours. The Jack Lynch Tunnel is a critical link in the city's traffic network. If you haven't reached the tunnel by 11.30am, you will not be permitted through it.
The full info can be seen HERE
We'll have a look here next week at the course, the Half-Marathon and what the 11am start might actually mean.
around 1500-1600 entries for the cork full marathon. seems to be roughly the same every year. shame the marathon is the least supported event on the day. would like to see greater support for it but it appears without the half marathon and relay it wouldn't exist at all.
ReplyDeletenot sure if the issues with water have been addressed but we will see
It seems to be ~1500 entries this year though that's not the same as the number of finishers. Last year, there was 1365 finishers. We'll have to wait and see how many turn up on the day to see if it's down.
ReplyDeletestill good that the full numbers are steady enough with the huge increase in the half event. long may it continue to grow. don't forget that this year we have waterford as well in june
ReplyDeleteAre they going to do anything to prevent all the bikes on the course like last year? Was a disgrace to see runners having to run around or have to get out of the way of bikes.
ReplyDeleteGood decision to stagger the marathon and the half by 2 hrs rather than 2 1/2. Allows the 1/2 start before the slower marathoners and relay runners reach the marina. Better from both groups' perspective I think
ReplyDeleteThey need stewards at mile 25 junction as well. Its a lonely stretch and i wasn't sure that i was on the right route until i entered the city near the end of the marathon.
ReplyDeleteim looking forward to running the marathon this year but it will be my last time running cork for me unless i see improvments with bikes on the course.one completely crossed in front of my path last year and another man totally blocked me at the blackrock castle stage.where you turn right to start heading for the centre park rd stage of course.i found it frustrating to say the least.theres enough going on without taking all that into consideration when running a marathon i feel.hopefully it will be addressd this year.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the bikes comments
ReplyDeleteThey are a complete nuisance and I will let them know in no uncertain terms this year if it happens again.
