We didn’t organise the race to the extent that we were going to be able to publish a full set of results for everyone. We had a huge clock at the finish line so that runners could get their own times and we know the names of the first three men and women home who won the prizes. It was our first year organising an event like this and we wanted to see if we could get the basics right. Thankfully it went well and for next year we will be looking to work on the areas that we didn’t have the resources to address this year.
I have moved some of the unpublished comments that were put under the pre-race post here.

"making it possibly one of the toughest 5 mile races in Cork?"
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely!! very tough race, well organised though and would do it again. No harm to do a challenging race every now and again even if my legs did nearly fall off.
Very tough course-delay with results very disappointing-almost a week now and no results meanwhile last nights race results are out already-wont be doing this race again
ReplyDeleteVery disappointing that there have been no results produced for this race.A challenging course and enjoyable race but if they cant be bothered to give out the results I wont be doing it again
ReplyDelete2nd Tim Twomey (Leevale), 3rd Michael Harty, 4th Danny Smith (Ballynonty), 5th Kieran McKeown.
ReplyDeletevery disappointing no results !!
ReplyDeleteThey could have saved money on race numbers too as having them was kind of pointless :)
ReplyDeleteEven now would it be so hard for the "organisers" to take the list of names and numbers they took at registration and based on the photos compile a list of who finished where? Most runners probably have a rough idea of their time based on their watch anyway. Just a tip for next year, lose the young lad blaring music and the hot dog van and concentrate on the very basics.
ReplyDeletesure you might have as well ran 5 miles yourself around glanmire for all the difference it made to a lot of people. a right cod. did this get a AAI permit?
ReplyDeleteDid this race have an AAI permit ? I doubt it very much and as such must be regarded as a fun run (no matter how hard).Being a properly organised road race does make a difference as can now be seen with the results etc etc
ReplyDeleteJames
Great atmosphere pre & post-race. All very well organised.
ReplyDeleteThe course was certainly challenging.
The big clock at the end was enough for me to take my time as “official”
Very disappointed tough run and put a lot into it the organisers took the money and are still running. My watch is good but as of yet it can only give me a time and not my place. I think I finished top 10 and was looking to confirm this. How hard would it have been to record the finish and work out places.........
ReplyDeleteNiamh Dwyer looks to have been third, according to the order of the photos
ReplyDeleteI would have originally said it was well organised, but considering there was no results it ruins all the good work for me.
ReplyDeleteTechnically it cant really be considered a “race”
In fairness to the organisers, they did nearly everything right.
ReplyDeleteThe course was challenging, the mile markers were well placed, the course was very well stewarded (could not get lost!), the grub afterwards was top notch, there was changing facilities, before and after, music and ice-cream, which added a festive atmosphere.
There were a few negatives, such as lack of full results, but overall this was a well run event.
I think the plan is that next year there will be full results available, but at least there was a timing clock to get your time.
It seems to me that, as always, people are very quick to moan (anonymously) about matters, without giving some credit where credit is due.
Yes they got a few thing wrong, but they got most of the common complaint issues right.
lack of results is hardly a small negatives!!! it's the reason why people run!!!
ReplyDeleteas i said if you want to run 5 miles around glanmire and have a roll in centra you could do that yourself.
I don't want to get into an internet argument with anyone, especially Anonymous, but not everybody who runs cares where they finish on a results sheet.
ReplyDeleteMy point is that there were good things about the race, and some bad. The organisers have put their hand up and admitted to the lack of results, which they will rectify in the future. In all other aspects of the organisation, you cannot fault it.
Not all races are perfect, and there is a learning curve with every race starting off.
I believe that they have a good foundation on which to build, and when they have a results listing, then it will be a "complete" race.
That's my 2 cents anyway.
Well done to all concerned. A few small teething problems to iron out before next years race but nothing major.
ReplyDeleteAs long as the feedback is taken on board im sure that you will remain a welcome fixture on the road racing calender. Best of luck and thanks.
Obviously the organisers have a few plants here.A race without a result isnt a race. They clearly saw an opportunity to get ten euro off people without knowing the basics of what a race entails. We guessing who finished where based on some photos says it all.A con job if ever there was one.
ReplyDeleteFound event had a different atmosphere to most other races.Had more of family fun run/school sports vibe about it than road race. I was a bit bemused to see burger and ice cream vans in situ on arrival as well as expletive ridden music blaring from the pa system outside.Race was very late starting for such a small number in very cold conditions. Nice grub afterwards, but otherwise poorly organised.Publication of all our results is a basic courtesy and the off hand approach here was disappointing. Next year? No thanks!
ReplyDeleteThere was no AAI permit for this.
ReplyDeleteLads,
ReplyDeleteIt's not the Olympics we are at here.
Can we all just remember that all these Road Race are run by Volunteers, who give their free time to facilitate these races.
The fact that there was no times issued should not really take away from the effort that was put into getting the race organised and ran in the first place.
As they said, they put the focus on getting the organisation right, and they will look at other aspects next year.
I would question if the people doing all the complaining, actually get involved in the organisation of any of these.
If it really bothers you that much, get involved yourself...
regardless of weather or not they are run by volunteers there is no excuse for getting the basics wrong. as for getting involved yourself argument if a punter pays his money they deserve to be treated correctly. paying punters are entitled to be treated with respect. my friend ran the race above and said it was lacking a lot, the organisers never said beforehand that there wouldn't be a official time. the reason there was no AAI permit is that the organisers probably won't pay it.I wonder why? balintotis midleton ballycotton series BHAA races etc etc are run by volunters yet they are top class events. this sort of thing gives road running a bad name. hopefully next year will see improvements

I have to agree a race has to have results again this race was well advertised as a race not a school fun run. When u are charged to run a race u expect 3 basic things an accurately measured course, well marked out and a list of results...
ReplyDeleteIs it to much to ask to see were I finished the race? Bare in mind I was not a volunteer I was the one how paid money ran hard and gave up half my day for this. Disappointing doesn't cover it.
IN MY OPINION I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY GOOD RACE HILLS WERE GREAT... THE ATMOSPHERE WAS GREAT.. YOU,LL NEVER PLEASE EVERYONE....
