It has been announced recently that Athenry AC will host the 2012 National Half Marathon on Sunday, the 2nd of September.
Following on from the success of the 2011 race in Waterford which got 690 runners, the 2012 race looks likely to be a hit as well. With a very high number of club runners in Galway and the ease of access from Leinster and Munster, it could well attract a record turnout.
More details will no doubt be released as the date gets closer.
is that club runners only?
ReplyDeleteIf it's like last year then it should be open to anyone. The main difference is that there will probably be a much higher percentage of club runners compared to usual.
ReplyDeleteUnless we get told otherwise by AAI this is planned to be open to all comers, but obviously you would have to be an AAI affiliated athlete to be in contention for the medals. The course was tested for over 1000 runners on Stephens Day last year so we can handle some big numbers if they show up. We plan on this being a very special day and really would love to see as many fit4life athletes who want to step up to HM as possible.
ReplyDeletei might give it a go!!! i usually did dingle half marathon last two years but the fiasco with timing chips and overall scantiness finished me with it.
ReplyDeletebest of luck with it
