A total of 181 people took part in this new 10k road race in Ahakista on the Sheeps Head peninsula in West Cork. An unusual feature noted in the results was that roughly 54% of those that took part were women, well up on the usual 35% that you might see in most races.
The winner of the mens race was Don Keohane of Eagle AC in a time of 36:02, over a minute ahead of his nearest rival. The womens race was a much closer affair with only only 8 seconds between the first two. In the end, Maura Regan of Eagle AC finished ahead making it a double win for the Cork club.

Fab event.Spectacular scenery, lovely quiet route....and who organised the weather? Congrats to all involved. Very well organised.Lovely atmosphere.Great community spirit in evidence.Lovely tea & buns - certainly has the makings of an annual event.Well done to all.
ReplyDeleteI was part of this race and it was fantastic event. I do plenty of racing in England but none of it can give scenery such as this. The post race food was also very welcome. Well done for organising the event and if you do it again next year hopefully I will be over at the same time to participate. Many thanks
