Directions and Instructions...see the map below of Midleton.
a) Entries on the night will be taken at the GAA hall (€10). €2 each entry will go to the locally based Lets Get Together Suicide Prevention Group. Entry desks will open at 5pm.
The GAA hall is located opposite the local train station. If you are coming from Cork City, then take the slip road for Midleton....then first left and onto the relief road going around to the west of the town...and at the next junction, turn right...over the rail lines....and then first left at The Session Bar. The GAA grounds are up this narrow road on the right.
...
b) On Tuesday evening (1st May), you can pre-enter at the local Community Centre between 6 and 7pm. This will allow you to collect your race number and avoid the entry queue on Thursday evening.
c) No Headphones!! Due to insurance reasons, anyone found wearing them will be disqualified. Out of all the local races, you can expect it to be enforced here.
d) Travel to Midleton by Train....Considering that the GAA grounds are just across the road from the train station, this might be an option for anyone in Cork City wishing to travel down.
Depart Cork...Arrive Midleton (D 17:15...A 17:38), (D17:45...A18:09), (D18:15...A18:39)
Depart Midleton...Arrive Cork (D 21:45...A 22:08).
e) As well as parking near the GAA grounds, they also have use of Hurleys Super Valu Overflow Car Park located just behind the Mill Wheel Bar on the Mill Road. This is just a few minutes walk from the GAA Pavilion.
f) The start line for the race is about 1km from the GAA hall. The finish line is about 1.5 kms.
g) FREE DRAW!! A free draw for a pair of running shoes will take place after the race. Just put your race number into the box provided at Midleton GAA Pavilion to be in with a chance of winning.
Course....The race starts on O'Dwyers road and takes in a loop to the south-west of the town. There are some small pulls but they are pretty minor. The last mile of the course is especially fast. Overall, it's a nice course on reasonably quiet country roads. Last year, they got around 400 runners for this popular road race. Expect a similar number again this year.
Old ruined fortified house near the 3.3 mile mark.
Just would like to let people know that we have a pre entry desk open tomorrow evening between 6-7 at Midleton Community Centre and we encourage as many as possible to avail of this.

Midleton AC
Great to see, that Midleton AC understand the times we are living in and have discounted accordingly for those that are unemployed. Other races should take note!!! This is a race that should get the right support from runners.
ReplyDeleteI think the Eagle AC Carrigaline race in February also discounted for unemployed persons. When your passing the 3.3 mile mark with eyeballs bulging you might find it helpful to know that the 'old fortified house' is Ballyannan Castle, built by an early Lord Midleton upon the site of an older Hodnett castle.
ReplyDeleteAre Eagle AC doing it for the Fota Race.Have not seen it advertised if they are ??
ReplyDeleteNo, Eagle AC are not discounting for the Fota race but will certainly continue to discount for its Carrigaline race. Fota is a bit different, and the value of a tenner entry fee here is remarkable, given the normal entry fees to Fota
