Events this weekend...Fri 9th-Sun 11th Dec 2011

Looking ahead, It's going to be a busy weekend with something for everyone...

Fri 9th Dec........
There is a floodlit cross-country race at the CIT grounds in Bishopstown at 6:30pm. The women's event over 3km will be followed by a men's race of 5km, both on a one-kilometre loop around the pitches at CIT, and both open to all runners. Entry is just €5, with proceeds (after paying for the lights!) going to the Make a Wish Foundation.

Sat 10th Dec......
Clonakilty......There is a Half-Marathon and Full Marathon in Clonakilty in west Cork. It starts at 9am and the entry fee is €65 and €55 respectively.

Waterford.......There is a Half-Marathon on the usual Waterford to Tramore circuit. It starts at 12 noon and the entry fee is €30.

Sun 11th Dec.....
Cork City......The Cork BHAA are holding their usual Simon/Turkey Trot 4 mile, off-road race at 11am. Entry is €10  at Lee Rowing Club. I presume it follows the usual format where watches are not allowed and you must guess your finish time.

Mitchelstown......There is a Santa Dash at 2:30pm in Mitchelstown in north-east Cork. Entry is €10. Not sure what the distance is?

RTE Television....
Peter Collins, Sonia O’Sullivan and Jerry Kiernan present live coverage of the Irish team in action at the SPAR European Cross Country championships in Velenje, Slovenia. The programme will feature live coverage of the senior men’s and women’s races as well as highlights from the earlier underage events. RTE Two-12.25pm-14.35pm

Ireland's great medal hope is Fionnuala Britton. The Irish Independent have a short article on her  HERE

  2. You're right...now corrected.

This is the info on their website...."Waterford AC Annual Half Marathon

  4. Do you know what off road means? I'm hoping to do the race on Sunday for the Simon communtity and never took part in the race before. Many Thanks

  5. I presume the term 'off-road' that they used for the race refers to the race being on the old railway track...i.e. tarmac suface and a short area on a kind of gravel surface. I think they were referring to the fact that it wasn't on a public road as opposed to some sort of cross country type of race.

  6. Hi John, I expect there will be a number of Cork runners heading to the Curragh on Sunday for the National Novice X Country. Best of Luck to everyone participating.
