Irish Times article on running shoes...

There was an interesting article in the Irish Times today which showed the results of some tests done on various models of running shoe. Basically, the amount of cushioning when a shoe impacted the ground was measured. At walking pace, a very cheap pair of shoes from Dunnes Stores (€18) were found to be as good as the more recognised brands of running shoes (€60-€140). At a running pace and for people that land on their heels...which is the majority of people...the branded shoes were found to have 'significantly outperformed' the cheaper brand. What may be of more interest was the fact there was no difference between the shoes costing €60 and €140.

It might be worth noting that things like weight or which type of shoe might suit a particular shape of foot were not tested.

  2. Don't fall for this one, everyone has different needs when it comes to running shoes,Dunnes stores shoes might be alright for hanging around in but for running races and long runs i would have my doubts.
