Entries for Fota Cheetah Race now closed...

Entries for the 4 mile race in Fota Wildlife Park next Thursday, the 19th of May have now closed. The limit of 800 entries was reached this afternoon.

There will be no entries or provision for entries on the evening of the race. The most likely scenario is that those who have pre-registered can turn up, look up a list of entries....see what their race number is....and then join the correct queue to collect it. More details in a later post.

Here is a statement from Eagle AC.......
"Entries for the Cheetah Run have closed. The 800 limit was reached early this afternoon and the entry process was closed automatically.  There will be no entries accepted on the night of the race – no exceptions. Many people will be disappointed, however safety and logistical considerations mean that Eagle AC cannot cater for more than 800 on this occasion......John Quigley, Eagle AC"

  2. Guys,

Where were Eagle going with their 10euro Entry for a 4 Mile Race...

Regardless of the free entry for Family etc, what about the individual that was running without bringing "baggage' with him to justify the Entry.

Its non-sense and a bit of snobbery to say the least. Was there any provision made for the unemployed or Pensioner runners.

Why would Eagle charge 10e and the BHAA charge 5euro fo a similar Race...

    Makes Me wonder.

  3. Out of that €10, Fota will take a % as it is fundraising for them.........and you get free access to the Wildlife Park and anyone you want to bring.

As with all races, if you think it is too expensive then don't enter. Obviously 800 other people thought it was good value.

  4. I'm with John D on this one..10 Euro is well know in advance... My one and only issue with this run is the fact that 800 poeple in the small foot paths of Fota is just too many people. I've done the race twice now and honestly thought it was too crowded on both ocassions. However for a setting it's nice and Eagle put on a good show...

  5. I can't believe the 2nd post in this thread! The race is unique - only the 2nd race in the world to be held in a zoo/wildlife park, and it's not the only 4 mile race that costs €10 to enter. Next you'll be wanting free entry to races!

As for reduced rates for unemployed/pensioners - can the poster list any other races in and around Cork that offer reduced entry fees for those runners? I didn't think so...

I'd be interested to know if the poster has entered the race. As John D commented, if you don't like it then stay away!

  6. As previously mentioned, part of that 10 euro goes towards Fota Wildlife - so its more than worth taking part, in my opinion. I'm going to be right at the back of the mass of runners, simply taking in the views as there is no other race I can think of that will be like this!

If a tenner is too much for some, okey dokey. Just stay at home and watch the box. :)

  7. I think the various events the day of Cork Marathon have a discount for unemployed, etc but it must be a nightmare to administer. I wouldn't suggest that Eagle draw trouble like that on their volunteers. It is a really beautiful course and clearly more than 800 think the tenner is worth it.

  8. Have to agree with most of the posters in here... the €10 is well worth it as it is supporting the park AND it is a unique event in our running calendar that should be encouraged.

I will also be at the back and be one of those 10 minute milers that the Cheetah will be chasing ;)

Good luck to everyone running tonight and remember... have fun.
