At this stage, anyone who has successfully entered the Ballycotton '10' race should have received their race pack in the post at this stage. In it, you should have the following......
Race Programme.....As well as the usual list of entrants, there is a Frequently Asked Questions section on page 4. As well as dealing with the usual questions, I noted the following...
Dublin Runners....If you are coming from Dublin on the train then you should note that a coach from train station in Cork will only be provided if there is sufficient demand. If you are thinking of using this option then you should e-mail the race organisers at ballycottonrunning@eircom.net and tell them. They have stipulated that the closing date for letting them know is Thurs 3rd March.
Timing Chip....This is a disposable type of chip. You need to tie it to the laces on one of your shoes so that when you cross the timing mat, the electronic equipment will pick it up. It needs to be as close to the timing mat as possible...hence, you put it on your laces as opposed to a pocket or elsewhere. Your race time will start once you cross the mat at the start line, not when the gun goes off for the start of the race. After the race, you dispose of the chips yourself. The organisers don't want them back.
Race Number....You would think it would be obvious that people would wear the race number on the front of their singlets / T-shirts but some first time runners may not know any better. You can usually spot them as they'll have their numbers on their backs or the side of their shorts.
The race organisers need to see your race number as you approach the finish line. Having it anywhere else just causes delays. As you can see in the picture above, the vast majority of runners have their race number attached correctly. If you are a new runner, follow this example.
iPods / Personal stereos/ etc......As per usual, there devices are banned for safety and insurance reasons.
