Talk about running by Christopher McDougall

This video clip is by Christopher McDougall, the author of the book Born to Run . This book looked at the Tarahumara Indians in Mexico and how they travel long distances by running. It also looked at barefoot running and ultra-running in general.

In this video from the TED conference, he covers some of those issues and puts forwards a theory as to why people are suited to running long distances. What might be of interest to most people is his thoughts on why distance running is more suited to women and older runners.

  1. Thanks for posting. My chiropractor gave me the Born to Run book and it was a great read. Just wondering if anyone else has tried to apply the philosophy to running and training in Cork as going barefoot on the roads of Cork is a step too far for me lol! I have switched to a lighter training flat and unfortunately am not brave enough to ditch the orthotics. Can anyone else share their experiences with barefoot running/chi running and actually achieving injury free status? I have a feeling this topic could require a new blog in itself!

  2. Why don't us runners try it, maybe have some short race 3km\5km where you run\walk barefoot and your entry money goes to charity, might be sore do

  3. As a chi runner not barafoot for the last 2 years, I found it very good for long distance training and raceing. No injury since I took it up.You could run barefoot at the Cork BHAA Stride by the tide 4m beach race on 26th Apri.
