This was the 5th race of 7 in the Ballyhoura Active Summer Series and was also a new race for the Mitcheltown and North Cork region. It attracted a total of 220 entries which is an impressive number for the first running of this race. While a large number of runners travelled from East Cork, South Limerick and South Tipp, a large proportion of the field were locals. It's easy to forget the importance of having local races in your own area to make people aware of the sport. Hopefully we'll see more runners from the North-East of Cork in other races in the near future.
The race for bragging rights...
The mens race was won in a time of 25:50 by Michael Herlihy of North Cork AC, a former winner of the Cork City Marathon. The ladies race was won in a time of 34:16 by Gillian Cotter of St.Finbarrs AC. Gillian also has a connection with the Cork City Marathon having finished 6th in this years race.

this race was a tough hard enduring race withthe mixture of a hard hill at the start.also some parts of the roads were dead and a few inclines too make running at pace somewhat difficult..but sayingthat i found the race too be a fair run with a good mixture of athletes from different parts of munster..i would like too add my praise by saying the fine spread of all homemade food and some hot teas and coffees was absolutely fantastic..well done too all in the galtee running association for making this five mile run a fantastic and worthwhile event..john griffin grange femoy ac..
ReplyDeleteJohn, I'd like to send my congratulations to the Galtee Runners on an excellent race. An excellent course which was marshalled at every junction. The food afterwards was superb and plentiful and the amount of prizes was also very good. Well done to all concerned and hope to see ye again next year.
ReplyDeletewell organised race, great hospitality and more volunteers than any of the big commercial races all for only 10 euro. well done to everyone - delighted to see so many supporting the race and thanks for all the tea and sandwiches too :)
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see this race in North Cork. A very well organised event with a tough (but forgiving) course. Looking forward to running this race for many years to come - well done to the Galtee Runners who always come out in force - from all at Mallow AC
ReplyDeleteGreat Race, Great Food. But more importantly I was blown away when a member of Galtee Road Runners AC came to shake my hand afterwards to simply Thank me for coming – the nicest gesture I ever came across at a road race!
