Results of the Corrin Hill trail run - Tues 11th Aug 2010

This trail race in Corrin Hill woods was a new race with the purpose of raising funds for Down Syndrome Ireland. With the clear blue skies, it was a stunning evening for such an event.

Q. Is there a demand for this kind of event locally? I know there are loads of road races but this is something different. Perhaps a series of races in local woods? Something hilly so it's a bit of a challenge? A mix between a road race and a mountain race?

Here are the results from the organisers....

Thanks to all who attended Tuesday's Trail run. A good crowd of 44 turned up to tackle the hill. With the healthy attendance we'll have to look into staging another race next year.

€450 euros was raised which will be donated to Down Syndrome Ireland through the Tour de Munster Cycle.

Thanks to all their help......Danny O'Hare

  2. I really enjoyed this event and would love to do more of them. It didn't really feel like a competitive race, more like a training run (but maybe the leaders were more competitive!) It was a tough climb all the way to the top, but a great feeling to sail down the hill all the way to the bottom! Good organisation, although I would have liked to have seen more stewards out around the course (a few people took a wrong turn)and nice burgers afterwards. The only problem with forest runs and challenges like this in my opinion, would be the lack of changing facilities and toilets, etc, and is something that could be a major factor if weather was bad. All in all, this event was a very positive experience for me and I was delighted to contribute to such a good cause. I'd certainly be in favour of doing them!

  3. Just a question ...... If the entry was 5 Euro could then probably get more interest - like 100 participants. that is 500 Euro for charity. Or 3 Euro --160/170 entries. ~~ 510 Euro.
Next week the 5 mile road race for entry of 5 Euro could probably expect 400 entries , that is a gate of 2000 Euro`s. I understand there is other factors to consider but do ya get my jist ? #
It would be interesting to see a graph of :
entry fee V`s participant for a full year and see if there is a direct correlation. I suspect there is because to be fair we are spoiled for choice ....

My first time doing something like this and I must say I really enjoyed it. A change from the road is no bad thing and also for a good cause. The distance was 5.5km and it was tough going out there.I guess the dry conditions would also be a big factor as it could detract a lot of people running these races if it were wet, as it could get slippy in a forest area. Very enjoyable though and would consider doing one again.

  7. John,

Your suggestion of having a series of these races is an excellent one in my opinion. There are plenty of trail runs around the Cork area (e.g. Corrin, Ballyhooley, Watergrasshill, Killeagh, Farrin Woods, etc, etc). A series like this could really take off.

  8. Great idea - photo looks amazing. Would love off-road trails but easier than IMRA runs
