(Updated Mon 6:30am)
The rain has arrived and it's likely that the start of the Cork City Marathon will be wet.
The current forecast is that most of the rain will have passed Cork by around 1pm with the possibility of some clear weather behind it.
The south-easterly breeze will be a factor for miles 3 to 7, around mile 10 and for the last 3 miles. Relay runners at the 2nd changeover in Ringmahon will be very exposed.
This is the infra-red satellite photo for 6:15am. The worst of the weather is moving towards the East so perhaps the rain might pass sooner than expected???
Guys I`ll take the wet gear any day after last year......
ReplyDeleteMy concern would be for the people at the handover spots waiting in the rain.
My prayers are for cool and dry , best of luck to all.
Your gear will be wet if it's hot as you'll be dousing yourself in water from mile 4 anyway. With wet gear the risk is chaffing (tape your nipples!)
ReplyDeleteThe BIG difference is that if it is persistent rain then you are soaking wet. Wet gear rubbing for 26 miles is a lot different than anything in hot dry weather.
ReplyDeleteI love this Blog. It's a true assest to the people of Cork.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's pouring with rain, yes there will be chaffing and bloody nipples (for the men, anyway), but rather that than heat stroke and not finishing? I think so...
