Spirit of the Marathon - Part 1 of 10...
First of all just a quick reminder that the closing date for entries to the 2010 Cork City Marathon & Relay is next Monday the 10th of May. It really is more than just another road race. It is an event where runners of all abilities get involved......be it in the Marathon or in the relay or even just helping out with the stewarding and water stations. It really is the highlight in the Cork race calendar.
You can get more details on the Cork Marathon website.

This is the first part of a 10 part series about taking part in a Marathon. I'll try and put up the following in a series of posts in the next week or so.
Sorry John not for me,the higlight of the Cork Race Calender is the Cork to Cobh race best event ever.
ReplyDeleteCork to Cobh is a great race but it's hardly for beginners. The Cork Marathon & Relay with attract around 8,000 people and cater from everyone from complete novices to experienced Marathon runners.
ReplyDeleteNo other event will attract as many runners in Cork during the year.
Totally agree with u on that one I did the marathon last year found the heat tough going so have decided to do 9.7 miles in the relay event and most of our team are novice runners and have opted to do 5 miles r so. I think the relay is great idea as they find the distance not too daunting and relatively easy to train for. Cork to cobh is a great event too one of my favourite races of the year.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore races as high profile as Cork Marathon are good to get non runners running which is really important and not just for the running world but for public health and well being of society as a whole. Cork to Cobh is a great run for those who run it but something like the Cork marathon and relay benefits Cork on a whole other level.
